Smile Another tire thread.. oh no!

Hey folks, I hate to do this, but I need some feedback and info on a dilemma ive had that is starting to drive me up the wall!

Ok, so ive had my car stored for almost 2 years; just been stupid busy with work. But now that things have changed for the better, I plan to get my car on the road this year, and really get to enjoy it. Only thing that is holding me back is some new rubber. with only 8900mi on the car, the 10year old PS2's are totally shot, and not safe to daily drive on. So now its tire hunting season!

I was planning to go with the Hankook v12's; a family friend runs a transport truck service center and is a hankook dealer, and I can get them at cost. I bought some hankook winters to put on my winter benz, and they are phenomenal tires. However, I have come across toyo proxes T1's and they are a very tempting deal.

Ok now finally heres my question. I searched for ages, and no one had a definite response from past experience. My srt-6 is lowered. Ive lowered it about 3/4"; notin too crazy, imo just the right amount to fill in the wheel arch gap evenly. Now heres my dilemma.. im super tempted to put on 285/30/19 in the rear, and keep the stock 225/40/18 size in the front.
Will it be worth the hassle to go with the 285/30 over the stock 255/35.. the 285/30 keeps the speed ratio almost identical.. however will rubbing occur??

Theres been tones of posts stating the 285/30's wont rub, however, what if the car is slightly lowered.?? Ive attached pics to show how low my car is. I think its a very conservative height. Nothin too crazy.

Fresh pics from 10 min ago

This was when I first lowered it. Hasn't really settled much after.

if that tire is 26" tall, as the stock tire is 26" tall, then it will not rub.

Sweet ride you have there. About your inquiry I think 285 would be to wide for you. I have a 275/35r18 nitto tires and with almost the same suspension setup and height as yours, I never encountered any rubbing issue with it.

The width is what concerns me. I haven't taken a look yet and see how wide the wheel well is, and if it will get too close for comfort to the inside of the fender too. I don't remember if the fender seam is factory rolled on these cars.

I was lowered and had 285 35 19 they rubbed only on big bumps or over 140 mph i put the stock springs back ran 285 35 19 no rub and now 275 35 19 no rub. i also had a set of drag radials 325 30 17 and they were 13" wide abd did no rub.

I saw a pic of the 285's on the factory rims, and they looked like they were just slightly too wide..

That's good to hear that the 275/35's don't rub when lowered. That's what im starting to lean towards. My only concern now is cosmetics.. Do you have a pic of the 275's on your car. Im just wondering how "thick" the sidewall really looks like on the car. I really like the sleek lowpro look of the factory tires. I researched that from 255 to 275 is only an approximate 7mm sidewall high difference.. and I know it all varies with manufactures.

Thanks for the help though.. Up here in Canada, tires are a ripoff. we pay 2-300$ more a set then in the US, minimum most times. Getting it right the first time is more crucial. lol.

in the link i gave u a tire chart.
it shows
255 35-19 as 10'wide,,3.5 sidewall,,26" tall
275 35-19 10.9 wide,3.8 sidewall,, 26.6 tal
285 35-19 11.2 wide,,3.9 sidewall 26.9 tall
285 30 -19 11.2 wide 3.4 sidewall,, 25.7 tall

they will all work but
the 285 30 is too small
the 285 35 is tall and MAY or MAY not rub
don't forget i ran 325 30 17 drag radials they were 13.2 wide but 25.9 tall and did not rub. jim

Initaly I was going by a online tire size calculator, which gives me very similar results.

I also ran the 275's thru it..
With that said, the 285/30's seem to be the closest to stock, even though they are everso slightly smaller (speedo will read higher). I plan to keep the 225's in the front if I go with the 285's. If I go with 275's in the rear I will upgrade to 235's in the front to keep the size differential similar. However as it is right now, with factory 225's I do get super minor rub when reversing at full lock in the front.. wider fronts wont help much with that. And because of this, might set my sights on the 285/30's

I came across these 2 threads, one of them has pics of the 285/30 on stock rims (not srt, but I believe they are the same width) JHM2K's car. And the sidewall looks nice and straight.

With that said, I fully understand that small variances vary between manufactures and both calculators above just give a estimate.

The final verdict I think will be when I call the tire shop, and see what they have for availability.
Once I bite the bullet, ill make sure that I post up my experience. The more info on the site for special situations and experiences, the better. Ohhh, and there will be some pics. lol

Thanks for the help
