Default new rear sway bar bushings polyurethane install

I have a noise from the back of the car that I have been chasing down for a month. I thought it was the adjustable camber arms or the sway bar links since the noise started after they were installed but I was wrong. Thanks MikeR and BLCKSRT-6 for helping me figure out the problem!

When I installed the suspension parts the car was also lowered (really lowered) and caused the camber arm to compress the sway bar up against the body seam. I had a metal on metal clanking or rattling noise then.

To fix it I ground out the body seam (thanks velociabstract) to allow the sway bar to move upward in the void that was ground away and extended the sway bar links out to clear the camber arms.

After the clanking and rattling was gone a squeaking/creaking noise was coming from the back which sounded like the sway bar. I thought it was the sway bar links but after lubricating the sway bar bushings only the noise disapeared completely for about 1-2 weeks. Now it is back and I need to replace the sway bar bushings.

I have been looking for a good replacement and happened to find polyurethane replacements in Waldigs gallery.

Now I have a few install questions;
1. Are the new polyurethane bushings cut already?
2. Do the new bushings have to be cut in order to insall them or can they just be slid on from the end of the sway bar?
3. If they have to be cut should the cut face to the front or the rear like the factory one? Where is the most load front vs. rear?

Did this cure the problem?
Are those bushes better than OEM or even better then Powerflex bushes?

I am curious about the mounting also. They look quite a bit bigger than the factory and the mounts look like you only have one bolt in place.

Thanks for jinxing me too.... my car developed the creak last week.... both my lady friend and I noticed it last week....

Never mind my questions... Here is Woodys how-to thread on the mod...

I re-read my post and it sounds like I installed these already. I didn't and the pictures I posted are from Waldigs gallery only. It looks like there is only one bolt but there are two.

I ordered a set tonight, Anything that I can add to Waldig's write up when Itry to install these?

I guess there is a slice in the bushing so its just an easy exchange. If not, i would slice it from the corner. Still question remains, is that the right bushing? what about getting one from powerflex?

srt6 rear sway bar is 19mm so that would make these a fit from your link;

SKU #: 1JA E1295156GMfr #: 9.5156G
  • Bushing Color: Black
  • Sway Bar Diameter: 19 mm
And they have grease nipples! I already bought a pair last night. I just got the same ones that Waldig had on his shelf that he installed.

Yeah, after reading his thread again I see that the new bushings are mounted the same and just a swap out. I ordered both types so I can see how they compare.....

again, are these special more stiffened bushes or just bushes made by non oem? We are keen on getting upgrades to the max, not only medium upgrades. I changed bushes on my MGF alll around (powerflex) and it was hell of a change.

Will be interested to see some impressions. After messing around back there I noticed mine have noticeable gaps around the sway bar. Looks easy enough for a newb to complete

Keep us updated with the results.

I have the suspension noise as well, and coincidently, also after installing new camber and sway bar links.

Subscribing.

I installed them and its been a senior moment since then, but I seem to remember that they were cut and the slotted hoops were able to bolt down in the same manner. Cant remember all the details, they were easy to install and have been on the track many times and the road with no issues. Mine were grease fitting style and have been without noise. They were wider and had more control - which is the way I like them. Enjoy the holiday, Woody

Fed Ex dropped off the bushings today but no brackets were included. I ordered what Waldig had pictured part # 5.5115G. The bushings did not come split. The opening is 15/16" or 24mm. The oem rear sway bar on srt6 is 19mm.

I havent gotten mine yet, but I did get the other set that you listed the part number for with the grease nipple...

SKU #: 1JA E1295156GMfr #: 9.5156G Energy Suspension
  • Bushing Color: Black
  • Sway Bar Diameter: 19 mm
It actually measures about 11/16" and is labeled 3/4" and is split. Looks like I will be putting this one on sometime this week. I will give feedback on it and let you know about the other one when I get it.

Thanks Mike! So the 9.5156G came with new brackets as expected?

So, are there any of these powerflex bushes that we could use? I guess they are "better"?

Yes they came with new brackets.... I tried to install them on Sunday and the bushing fits the sway bar fine...the brackets are too wide between the mounting holes and do not fit the mounting bolts....almost the width of the mounting bolt.

I am waiting for the other set to get here this week and see if they have the correct spacing...

I ended up greasing my factory bushings and putting them back in....at least for now..
