Default Wheel curious?

If I was to put 17x7.5 wheels on an 04 Crossfire for wintertime with an offset of 42 I should be fine whether it was on the front or back am I right?? The front tires would be 225/45-17. The backs would be 225/50-17. Just curious if someone can help a friend out here with this I'd really appreciate it!

It should fit fine, but I would think it would look like it was running on bicycle tires. Too skinny IMO, and if they are for winter driving, I would think that you would want to go as wide as possible.

Well thanks for answering this question. Its just for winter driving right now. My buddy that owns the car he's got the factory wheels and tires. I'm just trying to help him out researching some stuff on here. He's wanting to put smaller size rims on for winter hence cheaper winter tires possibly. Idk I'm thinkin the wider tires might make the car want to hover more like on ski's??? I figure if he's got the bite then he should be alright with this size.

Well, the higher sidewalls with the 17 inch rims will help for winter driving. Myself and several others use 16" wheels on the rear for drag racing.

I thought I read somewhere that somebody was using 16's for drag wheels. Makes sense I just had no idea how small the fronts can go, but figured prob. 17in was the max.

Yes, wider is not better in snow. You can use this tire size calculator to find a different tire with the same circumference by entering the existing tire info here : Tire size calculator

Well that goes to show how much my Middle Georgia snow driving experience has enhanced my knowledge on the subject. LOL I guess I was thinking that wide tires with a lower than normal air pressure would give a better grip than skinny tires in snow.
