There's a thought !!! Maybe I'll give them a call, and if they have one maybe I can rent it for 10 minutes for $20 !!!!!!
You have nailed it right there, the only people who have done this successfull are the dealers, I will not add anything more until we here some positive news. No one has found anything new in five years, use 20028's if you can as nothing else except the OEM parts work.

In my travels I stopped at a dealer to ask the price for teaching the car the new sensors but I have learned to ask first "do you have the DRBIII tool with the crossfire module?" One dealer found theirs "new" in the OEM package. "I guess we have not used it yet!"

Add one more set of 20028's working to your tally 180. And I am 100% certain they will trigger with a magnet Greg. The donut hole goes right over the valve stem till you hear the beep from the DRBIII.

Great that you have it working now! Was that done at a dealer, or do you know a mechanic that had a DRBIII? How much $$ was it for them to perform the procedure w/ the DRBIII?

Dealer only or should I say DRBIII only for the Crossfire to learn new Schrader 20028 sensors. This dealers standard rate is 1/2 hour labor $$ to do the relearn.

I really wish we could get the information on the receiver used in the Crossfire. I suspect it could be made to go into learn mode on it's own. Just a guess though.

Well looking like I might have to buy the Crossfire "card".. chassis menu on the SLK320 doesn't show a TPMS option and starting to think this is where Chrysler had a hand in the car .. so $50 bucks or more to the dealer.. or toss out another $100 for the card.. 3 cars to deal with = easy choice.. LOL

So you have the MB version of the DRBIII? The dealer I was at was gracious enough to allow me to take pics during the process. The DRBIII needed the Crossfire card AND an adaptor cable between the DRBIII and the car. This cable had a 4X4X2ish inch "box" in the middle of it. I suspect it might have been a CANBUS or SCI type conversion interface. The receiver module in our cars has a direct SCI line to the OBDII port on the car.

I do recall reading a post ages ago from what sounded like a Crossfire tech who knew his way around DRBIII. He said not only did you need the device, but the card and a cable. He also stated if you had all of those you still need the updated DRBIII firmware in the device. He gave several perameters and versions so just the Ebay DRBIII needed tons of investigation to make it a proper device for the Crossfire.

You might have to wander the SLK boards asking about TPMS. I am pretty sure the R171 had it so maybe R170 didn't

I don't recall exactly if it was the 171 chassis or other( went through several) .. but when I did find a TMPS menu to go in to I got communication error... Other menu's were working in the SLK320 side so I know it wasn't an issue with cables and connections. Son just informed me at Tech they have all the scan tool goodies.. (he's not well versed in them yet..LOL) . So told him if he gets a chance see if they have anything for the Crossfire. Worst case I guess I drive over there and "we" get hands on experience.. LOL

Thank you for this latest information. I feel that this subject is now finally down to the brass tacks(as my dad use to say). So for those that may want to get this service performed, we would need to therefore ask our Chrysler dealer if 1.) They have a DRBIII on site 2.) Their DRBIII has the latest firmware 3.) They have the Crossfire program card loaded onto it. 4.) They still have their adapter cable used for Crossfire and MB? 5.) They have someone there that knows how to use it. .......I wonder how well all those questions would be received, LOL.

I found a 2003 SLK230/320 owners manual and for the instrument cluster there is no TPMS light.

You make it sound easy, but I believe you were fortunate to find a dealer that could answer yes to all 5 of those questions. Not all dealers are able to do this unfortunately.
Good luck to MrMiata.

I called five and stopped at two. Prices ranged from $40 to $195 to do.

I posted this on TPMS 101 thread; (parts comparison chart shows Napa #92-1016 compatible with Schrader # 20028). Had 4 new (Napa) sensors installed & car "re-trained" to them with Chrysler DRB111, successfully. I believe if you replace less than 4, you must be sure of the frequency of the remaining one(s) and buy the matching frequency. If original, best to change all 4.
One dealer quoted about 1 hour ($110?) just for "re-training" w/DRB111. I paid Tech friend $50, (included 1 unsuccessful attempt using "bad" scanner, had to return on different day). It is really about a 15 min. job w/right tools.
Note, Napa part came in factory sealed plastic bag, in box.

Just put new tires and TPMS sensors on my son's 2004 (62K Miles). Tire store could not program the TPMS and sent it to another tire store...same story. They both told me that only a Chrysler Dealership could reprogram the car so that the car received the signal from the new sensors. I went to Gillman Chrysler in Houston and was told they would not service a Crossfire....I then went to River Oaks Chrysler in Houston and was told by their service manager that they only service Crossfires for customers that purchased their vehicle at R.O. and would not service mine. They sent me to Helfman Chrysler in Houston and I was told by the service manager that they would not service Crossfires because they did not have any of the software that would tell them what to do. They suggested that I contact Allen Samuels Chrysler....I called them and they said they would not service Crossfires. Does anyone have a lead where I can get my Crossfire TPMS reprogrammed in the Houston, TX area? Thanks!
