Brake Problem
Brake Problem
I changed the brake pads on my car about a week ago at my family's house and drove back to mine (over an hour trip) with no problems at all. The next morning when I started the car the "BRAKE" light was on and constantly beeping (which is driving me insane) and wouldn't go off. I thought it was something with the emergency brake but I don't believe it is. All the Chrysler dealers around here won't touch it because they say they don't know how to work on Crossfires but they told me to unplug the negative cable from my battery for 5 minutes then reattach it and I did. Now not only is the "BRAKE" light on and beeping but the "BAS/ESP" light is also on now. Can anyone make sense out of this and let me know how to fix it? Thanks!
Re: Brake Problem
First of all the "BAS/ESP" light will always go on after battery disconnect.
To reset that light start the car and turn the steering wheel completely all the way to the right and then all the way back to the left and then back to center.
That light should go off. I have done it before and it has been mentioned in other threads here.
Now as for the brake light I am not sure.
When I replaced my brake pads with Rotex Gold pads the brake sensor wire wholes were not quite in the correct place and I did not reinstall the sensor wires at all. This did not cause a brake light to appear and has not for more than 10,000 miles now. My guess is a bleed may need to be done but I am only guessing.

Re: Brake Problem
The Brake light and noise comes on when I have the E-brake on and try to start driving the car, I'm not sure it serves any more function then to let you know the E-brake is on, I could be wrong. I know you said you don't think it is the the E-brake but I would try fooling around with it and see what happens. If that is the case, it should not make any noise when in park, only when you put it in drive.
Re: Brake Problem
The "BRAKE" light does serve the parking brake but it also lets you know if there's any problem with your brake fluid and it can also come on if there is a malfunction with your ABS system. It could be something to do with my parking brake but i don't feel anything holding me back at all and I've done everything I could with it to get it to go off. It's not the fluid for sure and I can still feel my ABS working cuz' I had to slam on the brakes yesterday to avoid rear endng someone (totally their fault) and they worked fine. It's a very confusing situation haha I'm not sure what's wrong.
Valkryderguy, I thought about their being air in the lines and needing to bleed them but every dealership I've called says there is no possible way that that could happen. I think they're crazy but that's just me cuz' I think that is exactly what happened. Thanks a lot for the advice though that worked on making the BAS/ESP light go off and I'm taking it to a Chrysler dealership today that I found that has a guy who was trained specifically in Crossfires so hopefully he'll diagnose the other problem(s).

Re: Brake Problem
Hey Val,
Check with your Dad, but I don't believe the problem to be "Air in the System". I'm relating to your panic stop story and the fact that the brakes worked fine on your trip home. Air will cause the brake pedal to feel "Spongey", like it takes more pedal to stop, will almost hit the floor.
Normal brake jobs do not require the brakes to be bled due to the fact that the fluid system is never open to the atmosphere. All the mechanics I know use a "C" clamp to depress the pistons in the calipers when installing the new pads and never loosen a supply line or bleeder.
I believe your problem to be elsewhere.
Just my Dos Centavos !

Re: Brake Problem
Yes, I used a C clamp on mine as well that's why I can't figure out what the problem is. We've checked everything else and bleeding is about the only option left that we haven't tried. Unless, maybe, it's just something in the computer that made the light come on and it needs to be taken on which is an easy fix so I hope so but otherwise I have no clue. I've got an appointment at 1:00 today though to get it fixed so hopefully by this afternoon my baby won't be sick no more.
Thanks a lot for all the help and advice guys I'll make sure and let ya'll know what the problem is after I find out in case it ever happens to ya'll.

Re: Brake Problem
Finally got my car worked on today......Turns out that the emergency brake "switch" is stuck. As I understand the switch that tells the car if the brake is on or off is stuck in the on position. The mechanic said when he fooled around with the switch the light would go off and on but that on Crossfires you cannot adjust the brake so I had to order a new switch. Took 2 1/2 hours for them to figure that out (even with the use of a diagnositc machine) and it's going to be somewhere between $130-150 just for the diagnostic today, the switch, and the labor of installing it. I also have to rent a car for a day or two because they said I have to bring my car to them Friday morning and leave it until they get time to fix it (in which I have no clue when that will be). So for now I'm stuck with the mind torturing beeping sound which is awesome.....Just thought I'd let you guys know though. Hope my troubles help someone in the future.
