Not uncommon. Same on M/B forum. Many say 15,000 miles is a good point to change (like every other oil change). I get 'em for $27 from FCP Euro so I do mine right along with my oil change which happens to be every 10,000 miles. For that price, why not?!! Even if the old one is still good, I like keeping it firm.
Re: Replace your Steering Stabilizer, you'll be surprised.
I finally had a chance to replace it.
I think the one on the car was the original one from the factory and she has around 110k!
What a difference once changed! I would have done it the day I bought the car if I knew that it is going to change the ride this much!
I wasn't able to unscrew the drivers side screw until I turned the wheel a little bit. Other than that, it took less than 10 minutes to finish the job.

Finally got around to changing the steering damper myself. I went and got the one from autohausaz.com from stabilus.
It wasn't a huge drastic difference from the stock one that the car had on, but the wheel does feel finer. It feels like it has a bit less play? if that makes sense. And I also get the sense that it's smoother when turning now. Gonna test it some more, but so far it was worth the 30 bucks for sure.

Make sure you give the steering wheel a ½ turn CCW to place the linkage clear of the bolt at one end of the stabilizer.
You will need a 16mm socket and a 16mm wrench or crescent wrench on one end to loosen one nut and bolt assembly. Jack up the car and the stabilizer is right behind the engine cover pan.
So easy a caveman can do it!

Count me among the believers... Just changed the one on my 2005 Roadster @ 33K miles. Made a big difference - much less wandering. The old one was still somewhat difficult to move; perhaps the rubber in the 'eyes' had deformed and allowed more movement than it should.

Mine pulls to the left also, tried the stabilizer, alignment and dropping the pressure a bit in the right front. Still pulls to the left.

Sometimes it's a brake dragging. Checked that too, can't see any sign of it on mine.
Also checked the wheel bearings, they are OK too.
Guess mines a left leaning liberal, whereas I am a conservative.
Funny thing is, I see no abnormal tire wear.

I've commented on this before. This part is barely suitable for the application. Hardly any safety factor to prolong life. At $20 each, costs more to change the oil than do this service. If I was driving any amount of miles per year, I'd do this annually.

Could it be a tie rod problem?
Re: Replace your Steering Stabilizer, you'll be surprised.
I have a lot of play in my steering wheel and the car drifts to the left at any speed pretty drastically. I'd like to try these and see if it helps any.
Can someone link a good supplier in the US. Is there a better made third party version or just go with OEM?
