Wing up is usually a sign of a bad battery.

I understand the bad battery being a possible cause of wing up but in this case it is a new 74ah Bosch. I have also checked the wiring to the spoiler motor for power which is ok and cleaned all its connections. The rocker switch on the dash has no effect on the wing but blinks consistently. The RCM is also new and having checked, the relays work as they should. I have changed the ABS module for another s/h unit but have not re programmed with my VIN, does anybody know if this is necessary?

The CAB (Controller Anti-Lock Brake) does not need any programing. I'm thinking that is what you refer to as the ABS module. It has a large electric connector on the side which is attached to an aluminum block with the ABS values and solenoids and has the steel brake lines running to the wheel calipers. Just be certain you have a CAB with the same numbers as the one you replaced.
Does your cruise control work?

My mistake, the CAB is what I wrongly called an ABS module. Thanks for confirming that it doesn’t need programming, I just checked the VIN number from my diagnostic tool which agrees with the vehicle. Have just removed the 50 amp fuse (no.3) from the engine fuse block which powers up the CAB basically to close down the ABS light on the dash. I know this disables the whole ABS system but leaves the braking system to operate without assistance. My thinking is that without an ABS system I could get the vehicle through its MOT, (the brakes work fine without it and will easily pass the efficiency test), trouble is the …..!!!!!!! dash warning lights are still on! I had looked at the wiring diagram which shows the CAB unit directly connected to the dash lights so assumed that if it had no power then there would be no ABS warning light. On the plus side I was able to close down the wing using the dash switch and the red winky light is off. I will have to check with my MOT testing station to confirm that by making my vehicle a none ABS version, (not that such a beast exists), I can finally get the certificate I need to be able to tax it and get back on the road.

Look at the wiring diagram again for the brake light switch. That is why I asked about the cruise control. That brake light switch is mixed in with a lot of systems and even with the rear brake lights functioning correctly can cause problems elsewhere. Just a guess on my part, but it isn't too hard to deal with under the driver side dash above the brake peddle. Good Luck.

Sorry to have missed your Q about cruise control, yes it is still working. I had also replaced the brake light switch with new this year. All lights are working correctly.

I'm having the exact same issue. A local mechanic replaced the "Pulse Module" and now advises the "Steering Angle Sensor" should be replaced. Did you ever resolve the "ABS and BAS/ESP" issue; if so, what action was taken?

Regarding the ABS/BAS/ESP light, I hadn't been able to lift a code from mine for the last 3 years (5 garages and 1 specialist auto electrical company have tried) and I've attempted most things, apart from replacing the ABS unit. Cruise control works fine, brake light switch has been repalced, no fault code on wheel speed sensors and left-to-right steering reset doesn't resolve. By some strange luck/fate I recently managed to pull a code from my scanner (ICarsoft MB v.2) which inicates C1160 micromechanical yaw rate sensor AY pickup OR rotary speed and lateral acceleration sensor. I'm guessing these both refer to what we commonly know as the yaw rate sensor (located beneath and behind the shifter)? I had taken my vehicle to an established auto electrician approx. 12 months ago and they could not pull any code at all, however they did indicate that they had swapped out the yaw rate sensor for an alternative one (presumablly a second-hand one as there's a mercedes breakers nearby and I'd be surprised if they had a new one available to hand) just to see if this would solve the problem. The light remained on, however now that I have finally managed to pull this code from my OBDII scanner I think I'll try another yaw sensor again, just in case the one they installed as a test replacement was also a faulty unit. I'll let you know how I get on with this, as it's been quite a saga.

Appreciate your quick response. I'll keep you in the loop in case I have luck at my end.

The pulse module has NOTHING to do with those lights. The Steering angle sensor sure does, but I gotta tell you, in fourteen years of ownership, I do not think ANYONE has replaced the SAS and seen the lights go out as a result.

I do not know for sure what your issue is, you might consider starting your own, new thread and many of us here will work thru it with you. There is nothing wrong with starting your own thread for a problem, and I see the other guy had a lot of parts replaced that have nothing to do with those lights. This is not an engine problem, and out of the parts he changed, the RCM would be the most likely item.

One thing to ask is this: If your car is an automatic, do you have issues getting it out of "park"?
Also, does the speedometer work properly?

The answer to these questions can help isolate where, in the stability/traction control system, things are failing. I prefer to try to understand, logically, what is going on, and not just throw commonly-failed parts at the car.

Sorry for the confusion. I didn't include the ABS and BAS/ESP lights were an issue prior to the issue I had with no power to the engine when the key was engaged. The Pulse Module fixed the starting issue. One fixed, I was back to the original issue which is related to the Steering Angle Sensor. I purchased a new module online and it was installed today. The BAS/ESF light no longer comes on but the ABS light remains.

It is rare to have a starting issue caused by the pulse module, but I can say you are not the first.

The lights remain with no resolution in site. Did you try another yaw sensor and, if so, did it resolve the issue with the lights?

If you have a warning light on, you have a diagnostic code that will point you in the right direction. Thing is you have to get someone with the proper scanner to get that code.
On this forum there is a list of repair shops who are knowledgeable with the Crossfire and some make this car their specialty. two in FL are Dual Sport Dad and Miami Matt.
Remember our cars are a product of Mercedes and so they will scan as a 2002~ 2004 Mercedes SLK 320. It is a hybrid system on the Crossfire so not all things work with the Mercedes scan, but that is what many of us find most helpful. Here is the shop listing click the link and look at the Mechanical section in the listing. You will find many in FL Crossfire Repair
