Doggboy,

I drove about 330 miles (~500km) to look at one, and kept driving, another 200 miles or so to check on a second. That extra 200 miles was one of the best investments I've made.

Enjoy the drive, and good luck with the shopping!

The only way to do it I drove from Kent to North Yorkshire to buy my SRT6

Doggboy, I may be selling the wifes Crossfire (not the SRT6) just after Christmas, 53 plate, Blue, Auto, 108,000 miles (don't let that put you off, they are good for twice that) Just had a full major service, just had the wheels refurbed, hardly a mark on it inside and out will only be looking for around 3.5K for it. would be quite happy to meet part way for you to view it with no abligation to buy.

Hi DoggBoy!

Firstly I need to say...GET A CROSSFIRE!

They are a very rare sight here in the UK and look very classy. I have had my fair share of cars including an MR2 - 53plate convertible facelift model. At the time I liked it however comparing an MR2 and XF - The cars are in a different class.

XF is a Merc in desguise and is a real head turner - The MR2 is reliable but cramped and boring to drive.

I travelled 185 Miles from Southampton to get mine and it was worth the train journey up!!

Always remmember...If you see one advertised that looks to good to be true - It is! So just walk away.

I managed to get mine for £3800 is black 04 with 72k on the clock FSH 9 months MOT taxed, cracking car. Im glad you have done your homework!

You will notice a large amount of XF's in that grey/Silver colour as they are very common and generally cheaper - Id go for black or dark red if I was you as they generally have more kerd appeal and easier re-sale!

Sounds interesting buddy, bit concerned about the high mileage though?.....always been told to avoid anything above the 100 mark really maybe interested if price could be altered favourably how many previous owners & how much service history?.

Went to view the first & third of the cars I posted previously both nice cars indeed....got offered the first blue one for 4k, need a new fog light case as it is cracked, Ali on the exhaust needs attending to.....covered in fume residue, 4 previous owners....stamped dealer history, 2 keys, 12 moths mot, out of interest it also has 2 threaded holes in the boot on the panel that backs onto the seats, asked what it was but he had no idea, I believe a homemade parcel shelf/boot cover could've been the culprit?.

The third 06 plate is above my price range but liked it a lot.....2 previous female owners, full jeep/Chrysler history 12 months mot, 6 months tax, 2 keys.....got offered it for £5500.

Any thoughts folks?

Cheers for reply buddy, I really am getting the itch for one now after viewing today, & I concur that the different colours are more appealing...black especially.
Found this one (link below) on auto trader which is 161 miles away, contacted owner via text for some info....got general info so I asked for a bit more & I've heard nothing since, I don't want to travel all that way for something that is not viable
Think I gotta keep digging?

RE: Link: http://www.autotrader.co.uk/classifi...true?logcode=p

looks nice - Seems to be the 'black' version (I.e the park around the windscreen is black not silver, the badge etc.. are all black).

Just remmember the higher the mileage the harder the re-sale willl be. Always give the seller a call - No doubt they have had lots of people text them and if you call it shows you are actually interested in the car.

I would ask why the massive price from from 4995 - 3595? That's a lot of money to just knock off the price.

Here's a couple I have found for you - There are lots out there and all can be knocked down in price.

All depend on your budget! Have you decided auto or manual yet?

stunning crossfire - extremely cheap!!!!!!!!! in Bangor, County Down | Used Chrysler for sale | Gumtree.com

**Immaculate Chrysler Crossfire for Sale** in Bromley, London | Used Chrysler for sale | Gumtree.com

Not fussed about transmission, think they both have pro's & cons (auto better mpg, manual more drivable) so will go for either.
My budget is 4k tops but would like to pay less it's hard making a choice, you always get that 1 negative thought that seems to resonate more than the 1000 positives lol

Will bare your motor in mind mate, may come down to a higher mileage model due to costs etc....out of interest what is tax on the 53 plate?

The two threaded holes are where a cargo cover was screwed to the back of the bulkhead. That is a hard part to find and is in demand, someone took it out and sold it or are about to sell it. They can go for more than what they originally cost.

Had a feeling it may have been something like that, when I do get my xf I'll have to knock something up out of black out blinds or something

HI Doggboy

just get a black cloth & put it over what ever is in the boot , you can not see it that what we had works very well .

Cheers

Question Re: Thinking of getting a crossfire but worried

Viewed a black xf earlier (link to auto trader page below) which I quite liked...it was in nice condition...few kerb marks on alloys (as expected), interior was excellent but just a couple outings were nagging at me....they possibly are nothing but just value your opinions before I make jump. (it has mot 06-12 & passed with no advisories)

1: Exhaust had been changed from stock twin outlet to one oval shaped exhaust, it looked real good but anything in it more than just an exhaust change? (should I be looking out for anything or is it just a blown exhaust been changed or for cosmetic purposes?).

2: service has stamps in it upto 2007 which was at 40,000 It now has 56,000 miles on it, seems a long time for a car of this nature not to be serviced for 4 years? Or is it normal...have they gone off service miles not timed intervals?.

It's on at £4290 & tried an offer of 4k cash but he wouldn't budge, considering I'd have to service it & tax it as it has none I thought it was a decent offer?.
Couple more have gone on that are priced similar so think I'm gonna hang on a little longer.
What you folks think?...go for it or right to hang on?

Personally I'd wait for something else as he isn't telling the truth about the service history. At best its incomplete and now largely irrelavant. Also that is the cheapest spec of car available in the uk ie auto, coupe and old. Why do you expect the alloys to be scuffed? Mine aren't. By the time you knock off the price of a proper service, refurb alloys, possible exhaust? you might want to offer 3500 if you really want it not 4000 . Don't rush it its never a good idea - I know as I've done it and regretted in the past

Well, you are at the cheaper end of the market. The money you want to spend might not get you the perfect car. Even if a car has a full service history doesn’t mean its not with out faults. At the end of the day,if you feel that the vehicle is right, go for it or you might waiting around a long time looking for the dream machine. I say try it again, if it drives well and ticks most of the boxes, go for it. Good luck.
