Alternator replacement
Alternator replacement
Hi,
Now it's spring in my country and time to take out the car. I took it to the annual safety test and everything was correct. The day after I wanted to take a sunshine trip with my car. What happen when I cranked it up? The battery alarm lights up on the dash, bad day!
I google as I normally do when I get new problems, then started to solve the problem.
I have collect some photos here and text of what I did if you find it interesting to read:
2005 years Chrysler Crossfire: Alternator replacement, page I
Partly I leaved it to the workshop because it was to cold to work with the car outdoors.

Re: Alternator replacement
Hi,
According to Autodoc in Germany and Chrysler Crossfire Roadster 218 hp it should have the following OEM number:
Alanko, OEM-referensnummer: 5097755AA
Eurotech, OEM-referensnummer: 5097755AA
Magneti Marelli, OEM-referensnummer: 5097755AA
HC-Cargo, OEM-referensnummer: 5097755AA
The AS-PL alternator I bought had a different OEM number, but still fit, it was to the Merchedes. I paid 160 Euro for it. You must check very very carefully that it fit because there are so many manufacturers of this alternator with small variations. It should fit but who knows in reality?
To Mercedes SLK there are two different sizes of the alternator, but to Crossfire only one, the 120 Amp alternator.
The one I replaced was a Valeo 120 Amp 14 volt. Maybe the original.
Maybe you don't have to replace the complete alternator, only the brushes, comes with the regulator I think. About 25 Euro.
When I changed the fan blower there where two versions, one for left hand drive cars and one for right hand drive cars. But I can't find that there are any difference in the alternator case. From where did you hear that it could be two different alternators?
Update:
Now I know, the SRT6 version has another alternator and it's the pulley that is different.

Re: Alternator replacement
The SRT Alternator has a different pulley on it. I understand that you CAN transplant the pulley to the new Alternator.
That is all I know about SRT alternators.
As to Limited/Base Models, the 04-06's seemed to all come with a Bosch.
My 07 came with a Valeo - and there are two Valeo's:
All three of the above alternators referenced the same part number. The guy at NAPA told me that the part number did not specify an alternator, but a family of alternators and that several manufacturers produced 120 amp alternators that electrically were the same and the mounting holes were the same - it's the configuration of the back of the alternator that changed in response to a production change that specified a different B+ lug on the wiring harness.

- My OEM one had the B+ post and housing oriented a certain way.
- My first Valeo replacement had the B+ post in a different location and I had to cut part of the housing away as my B+ lug was larger than the cutout on the back of the Alternator.
- My second Valeo replacement (the first one lasted only three months, replaced under NAPA warranty) had the OEM rear layout and was easy to replace.

Re: Alternator replacement
Interesting, the SRT6 has a 8-groove pulley compare to the standard Crossfire which has a 6-groove pulley.
Of course the compressor needs some more torque from the belt.
In Sweden I have only seen the standard Crossfire, the SRT version can't be many of here.

Re: Alternator replacement
Changing the alternator in an SRT the NA is similar. CLICK
Valeo makes alternators that replace Bosch alternators and vice versa.
This chart CLICK shows the alternative part numbers.

Hi,
Now I have driven the car 1000 km since I replaced the alternator, still working!
Just a few updates:
