Adding missing isolator around D/side wiper stem
Adding missing isolator around D/side wiper stem
This part was missing and I promised myself to put one in one day

In the second photo below the plastic cap (Chrysler part#05101489AA/Mercedes #000 824 02 49) and nut have been removed and is ready for the gear puller to be used.
The wiper driver-side stem hole is way off center and is not large enough for the isolator anyway. I measured the isolator hole on the passenger side, also off-center, and found it to be 1.67” Ø. I found a juice bottle cap 1.70Ø, I drilled a hole in the middle of it .47” Ø and put that on the stem and scribed around it.
Remove the caps and nuts from the wipers and release the wiper arms with a small gear puller. Removal of the cowl is done by removing the seven Torx-headed screws, cutting two cable ties, and releasing two wire clips with a screwdriver. The plug for the washer nozzle heaters is just pulled out. The job could be done with the cowl in place but I removed it to see if there were any blockages in the drains and I found the leaves shown. The shavings made by the hole enlargement are also easily removed. You can see the heater fan on the passenger side and if that drain with the leaves over it became plugged you can see how the water enters the car so easily. The opening for the heater is in that flat area just above the leaves and drain.
The excess material was removed with an Olpha knife, I cut just inside the scribed line so the hole ended up about 1.67Ø which was the diameter of the existing passenger side isolator hole.
I installed the isolator and re-assembled the cowl and wiper arms. Job done.

Re: Adding missing isolator around D/side wiper stem
Dang Dave, You made me go out and look to see if I have those intact or not. Sure enough, no D/side isolator; and it's way off center too. Are we all like this? This is just a cosmetic thing right? Or does it help stave off rust to the stem area.
Re: Adding missing isolator around D/side wiper stem
I am sure that extra crap can get into the area below the cowl because of it. So I fixed it on mine and it looks better for it. The passenger side one is out of position as well, but it just causes the isolator (grommet) to get distorted.

It is on all of the cars that I have seen and heard about, there is a major **** up in the cowl hole positions.

No isolator on my driverside as well. What is the cost of the isolator?

Seeing an opportunity though I purchased all the 253 parts in North America. They now sell for $17.50 each including shipping.

Thanks for the info. Did you get from Chrysler or MB?
