Running wires for aftermarket amp and rear speakers ('05 Base)
Running wires for aftermarket amp and rear speakers ('05 Base)
I put this together today to help anyone in the future -- there is a lot of information, just really spread out. Most people here probably don't need this ... but I'm sure a few new owners looking to add some audio stuff will find it handy... P.S.: Washed the car afterward... haha

Infinity Reference 9632cf 2 way 6x9 (In individual boxes, secured by 1 inch thick velcro tape around the underside edges... which works surprisingly well. I can lift the entire setup by the top two boxes... and the subs+box weigh ~60lbs)

Awesome!
Finally some video of the wire running process. I have been pulling my hair out trying to figure out how to do this with other people's pictures and they always leave you needing more. I think I am gonna video the process I go through for my backup camera install today as well. Much easier to follow rather than guessing all of the in between steps from picture to picture.
Mucho Thanks Sir!

I'm absolutely doing this. I could fab mounts for some speakers in the factory spots... but honestly, I don't have the room nor expertise to do that
I'm still running the stock speakers in the front. They hold up, even with 2 12" dvc Polk Audios in the trunk.

Great job on the video! Wish I would have found this when I decided to put my amplified bazooka tube in. Researched enough and found enough pictures to comfortably take on the project. I ended up feeding a clothes hanger from the inside of the rubber grommet to use as a wire pull to keep from having to take the battery out. Still running the stock HU so I tapped into the input side of the amp for my speaker leads and tapped the remote turn on into the ignition on power lead there too (no extra bass when parked on acc..and less chance of killing the battery by extended play time). It came with a "craddle" and straps for mounting and I used velcro on them to hold it to the carpet. Figured anything more than that to hold it was going to be the least of my problems

I added component kappas in the factory location and to where the factory subs should have been in mine, I added another set of component kappas, I used to have a base coupe. Even with 4 individually powered and tunable tweets, I still think it was bass heavy. Adding the speakers into the OEM location looks MILES better, IMHO than throwing some large speaker boxes into an already crammed area. Not to mention, you get in a wreck with those boes up there, and they are more than likely going to take your head off (a kleenex box can kill you at 60MPH - mythbusters taught us that LOL)...

Trying to rewire a base Crossfire roadster.
So, I realize this is an older posting (but it sounds really good) and the chances of seeing the video on the first page are probably slim to none. But it would be nice if somebody has access.
I had seen there was a further explanation on running new wires to the rear speakers, but after using the search function extensively, I have been unlucky.
This web site spoils the new owners of Crossfire, since something has already been done.

Re: Running wires for aftermarket amp and rear speakers ('05 Base)
Are you installing a new amp or using the OEM
If running new amp, run all new wires from head unit to AMP and new speaker wires
from Amp.
If new head unit, do you have a new harness? Give us some more details and we’ll be able to better assist.
also if possible, avoid the RCA speaker jacks, use the wires from harness to amp.

Zeracer is correct
silk plate must come up. Use plastic body interior trim tools (orange tools in one or two of the images) to pry them up evenly. The clips on them are aggressive and you can break the sills very easily
you also need to remove the side panel in the footwell. The fastener is concealed behind an oval plastic tab. That tab can be removed with a very small slotted screwdriver. The faster is a 10 or 15 torx. They are easy to lose (experience talking)
really easy to do. Makes it crazy easy if you remove passenger seat.

Re: Running wires for aftermarket amp and rear speakers ('05 Base)
I am using a new head unit and I have the base model crossfire roadster, so no amp or woofers in the back.
I was interested primarily in the routing of the speaker wires from the head unit to the back subwoofer area. Thought I read someplace (can't find now) that the routing was passenger side around glove box and down the door side channel. I always feel more comfortable if somebody has already done it.
I decided to do the "more correct" fix to hook up the back speakers. The stock base Crossfire car harness does not have pins (and wires) in the car side of the harness to go to the back harness which does not exist (How much did Daimler save on that connector change by leaving the pins out?). So, I am installing pins in the stock car side harness connector, instead of cutting up the Metra adaptor harness wire. That way, both set of speakers go through the stock harness connection and the front speakers use the stock connection wire.
I suppose I could have just cobbled up the Metra harness as normal to work in the back channels, but I was trying to make it look pretty this time
