All the symptoms I had, I did remove the RCM and re soldered the connections. Same problem so I sent to be repaired and has not returned yet. Wil update if it works.

Update
RCM is now with local service station who will do the soldering. When that is done they will call and, as long as the car is running, I will drop it off and take the CPS (Bosch 0261210170) which they will fit.

One other thing is that I noticed that if you look at the Plug pins on the RCM, two of them are slightly discoloured (i.e. brass/bronze). I have highlighted them on the attached photo. Is that normal, or could it be a problem?

If you are having the mechanic replace the CPS make sure he puts the good working one they removed in the glove box for a future replacement if ever needed.

Your problem was the traction control relay was bad. Suspect marlam may have the same issue.

P.S. Your RCM went in the mail Sunday.

Hi, I am Marlam's wife and was wondering if someone could identify this for me - it's next to the box where we removed the RCM. When we were attempting to start the car yesterday, we moved this and soon after the car started - is this significant? Could there be a loose wire?

When you say bad, what specifically? The coil was open? Relay contact too much resistance? Something else?

The coils are going bad. Once voltage is applied and the coil heats up the relay opens. Takes just a few seconds usually.

Have seen this on the engine, traction and fuel pump relays.
Have yet to see a bad horn relay.
We all know that the air pump relay contacts burn up.

yea, too bad we can't source a 100 amp mini relay that would fit for the air pump

Sorry but that picture is too small for me to see what and where it is. Please post a larger picture?

I believe it is the purge valve for the charcoal canister, no way it would effect starting.

Just got a code for the air pump on the WAY TO THE INSPECTION STATION!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Well pulled the rcm and found end relay totally toast, trying to get Tighed to send me replacements so I can install them and get inspected asap due to date on sticker on window.

The contact was totally toast and I gotta think on this as this has hit HOME TO ME. A better relay or a transistor seems to be in order. Yuck, I was not planning on this delay. Woody

Agreed, I actually acquired a couple of 100 amp relays and scoped out how to wire it in externally to the RCM ( won't fit inside ), but never got a roundtoit. Gonna do that one of these days

(Bad) update on our problem

I have followed the advice given above. I got my local service centre to re-solder the RCM, also replaced the battery with a brand new one (although the old one was showing and holding its charge). I have taken the car out on a few short trips over the last couple of days and kept starting and re-starting the car whilst in the drive – I thought that things were OK. This evening we went for a run, and when we got back I turned off the ignition and tried to start the car up again. Two fails. (Dash lights and all electrics working, but no start up. Spoiler did not go up this time and, as before, no fan spinning). On the third attempt the car started, but this cannot be a good sign. The car is booked in next week for the crankshaft sensor replacement!

Anyone got any ideas (please)!!! Could the RCM still be the cause, or is the problem something else. We were supposed to be driving into Europe and have already been forced to delay the trip when the initial problem occurred. Obviously all plans using the Crossfire are now on permanent hold until/if we can get this problem cured.

Default RCM (request for help from tighed1)

I have tried messaging and emailing you re: the service you offer on page one of this thread. You posted earlier that you thought that I had the same problem as TomKat (i.e. traction control relay). I know that you sorted out his problem and I was hoping that if I sent my RCM over you could do the same for me. I am in the UK, so I know that it would take longer/cost more etc. Can you let me know if this is possible.
Thanks
