Thanks onehundred80 but before doing that i thought i'dcheck the corner where the rubber grommit is and sure enought the line was snapped there.

A bit tricky to work with but easier than taking the whole thing apart so i've done a repair job using some electrical insulation sleeving and superglue.

I'd like to say it has worked but i don't know as i daren't lock the car because my alarm keeps going off when i do (really ear piercing screeching that doesn't stop even if i drive the thing)

That alarm problem was going to be the next thing to solve after the pneumatic line but amazingly enough yesterday the keys suddenly wont turn in the ignition and i can't even drive it!!!!

hate to say it but it's time for this car to go!

I call it a boot as its not really a grommet, thats where they break. The other problems have their solutions on this site.

Yep just been printing off the instructions for sorting out that ignition / locking pin problem - will have a go this week

So many alarm queries i couldn't find one that sounded like it had a solution to my problem, think i'll let an electrical specialist look into that one.

If you aren't going to try to fix it yourself, then yes.

(But I'd not go to a dealership, I'd go to an independent shop familiar with Mercedes and save a FEW dollars on a repair you can do yourself.)

You, a mechanic or a contortionist has to get into the back trunk area, yeah climb over the bulkhead and disassemble the trim to get at the latch. There are other posts on this.
Didn't your mother ever tell you life was not always a bed of roses?

pull fuse #26, it will kill the timer for the fog lights and as a bonus unlock your trunk. (at least it did for me)

if your having the same problem I had last month, your fog lights are also acting up and you can't lock/unlock the car with your key fob or the central lock button. I plan on replacing the central locking pump when I get some time and the weather cooperates.

there's alot of info here on the board, learn to use the search function.

good luck.

I have tried it all still no luck getting the hatch to unlock.
Chrysler had to replace the whole engine wiring harnes, after doing so i have had nothing but issues,
how do you manually get the hatch to unlock in the back?

sorry if pulling the fuse didn't work for you.

actually, I didn't expect it to unlock my trunk when I did it. I just wanted to kill the timer to the fog lights. somehow its all related to the central locking pump.
that was a bonus so maybe it unrelated to the fuse,

I will give it another try, but i dont see how pulling fuses will unlock the hatch, I do know that my Sylanoid in the back is not working/Burned out, so im trying to find a way to manually unlock the rear hatch
someone mentioned remove the trim and i will be able to gain access to the rear locking hatch, Im about done with this.

Buy Jap cars

Thank you,

I pulled the fuse with the car locked and unlocked and nothing happened.

If it does not unlock and you can hear no click then I would say that the air/vacuum line is broken in the rubber boot at the top of the door.
Can you hear a hiss coming from that area when you lock and unlock the car with the fob?
Do the doors lock and unlock?

I assume that the door locks are not working.
If so the black panel under the lift gate has to be removed. Take out the center pin in the middle of the six fasteners holding it on and then remove the fastener itself.
The black panel should be loose, somehow it is lifted off or swing up enough to get to the latch mechanism.
If I see the word Japanese again I shall let you find help on the Honda or Toyota forums.
If you want help we need to know certain things, so telling us all the symptoms helps.

Lightbulb Re: '04 Coupe Liftgate lock failure

Ok this is how its done my padawans-

remove rear plastic lower panel there will be 1 screw that needs to be removed, that is located where the rear hatch handle is-

slowley pull off the panel , it has 6 clips to hold in place - but comes off nice-

There is a small open area on the Left hand side of the latch (Uper Left)
press down with a flat head screw driver-

you will feel the trunk release and thats it-
However i am still unable to get the device to completly unlock, so when i shut my trunk again it locks, but i was able to get it to open

If your slim you should fit fine, If your a Big Guy you might sweet a little.

That was easy when you look back on it, Eh?
By the way, you have the hierarchy all wrong here, you are the padawan. Show a little respect for your Masters.

The same happened to me, the liftgate was slamed by accident, jammed close, for my luck I am investigating "The water in the trunk mystery" (is still a mystery my car is a coupe, no fixed wing,no trail of water leaking from the boot, I will inspect the opening for the gas pump, how is sealed) and all the trims are off!!!; When I closed the liftgate jammed again, it works well with the gate open, locks/ unlocks but when pushed down to latcht it fails to unlock when commanded, I think that the force of the impact pushed down the striker so I set it higher , locks/unlocks fine, tomorrow will fine tune the height of the striker.

PD, I was able to turn loose the striker's torkx screws with an undersized screwdriver bit, so it was way too loose for this body part.
