Also try searching Mystery no start it contains alot of the same info and pictures.

Re: p0410 secondary air injection system malfunction solution?
I cleaned the one suspect relay with emory cloth, my point pile was too thick to go between the contacts. With the solder job - Thanks Tighed1 - and cleaning the relay all is well so far. It has been to snowy for much driving though. All done with info gained from others experience here - I'm not that smart but I can read
Re: p0410 secondary air injection system malfunction solution?
Well son of a monkey!
It has been gone and fine for days. Put over 300 miles on her with a short road trip. Took the car in today for state inspection and the CEL decided to come back. DARN IT! So, she failed inspection.
I have a new check valve on order and am heading out right now to check the board and see if I should do some soldering.

Hello,
Numerous members have mentioned that a resistor can be placed on the connections of a faulty air pump in order to get rid of the CEL, does anyone out there know how big a resistor I need and the process for doing this?
Any help will be most appreciated.

Re: p0410 secondary air injection system malfunction solution?
A couple months back my CEL came back intermittently. I got tired of pulling the module so I finally replaced it. At Chrysler the module cost approx. $250 to $300. I found the same part, online from M.-Benz at $150 to $175. I got mine from a dealer for $167.00 +tax. The dealer priced it at $220 originally, I told him I found it online at $150, he came down to the $167. I have noticed that my spoiler deploys at 67mph with the other module it went up at 64-65mph. I am wondering what all the module controls and which relay controls what.
Re: p0410 secondary air injection system malfunction solution?
So my pump is 100% fried, I have disconnected the pump and tried to put a resistor to convince the circuit that it works but I still get the CEL. I have ordered the Check Valve, but I am pretty sure now that it must be the RCM - i think this could also be the source of my BAS/ESP issues. Is there a way to clean up the RCM?
Re: p0410 secondary air injection system malfunction solution?
I was able to fix my check engine light. Turns out it was the air pump. I ordered it and replaced it myself. The dealership wanted to charge me $1200.00. 3 hours of labor?? for what?? It took me less then 30 minutes to replace the pump. Its pretty easy to switch out. Only one bracket holds it in place.
I also had a BAS/ESP light come on. That turned out to be a brake switch. That cost all of $26.00 bucks. I had the dealership install it. One hour worth of labor. I probably could of did it, but don't want to mess with my breaks. I'd rather the dealership be responsible for that.
Some other things that may throw a BAS/ESP light might be the alignment. Crossfires are sensitive especially after changing tires which I recently did.
The break switch fixed the issue though. No more BAS/ESP light.

Re: p0410 secondary air injection system malfunction solution?
Hey Solnyc2,
I've ordered a new pump - found an absolute bargain on ebay under Mercedes Smog Pump. That should arrive in the next couple of days. Trouble is, something made the old pump fry out, and I think it could have been a faulty RCM, if I replace the pump and the RCM is at fault it could end up frying the pump again

Hi Black03AR,
What kind of codes are you pulling? It's a tough call. My air pump was also burnt but it appeared to be jammed from the inside upon opening it. There is actually a benz repair kit that can be used to salvage the pump which I did try prior to purchasing a new pump.
I haven't had any codes pulled for my RCM unit but I did take a look at it and expect it.
Again, its hard call on your situation. It could of just been that the pump failed like mine did.
Check this link at for the RCM DYI repair. If you did its fine. Just thought I'd send it just in case.

Re: p0410 secondary air injection system malfunction solution?
Hey Solnyc2,
The only code I'm pulling is the P0410. I got a new pump pretty cheap from ebay so just waiting on that then I'll replace it. I tried to find the MB repair kit - but couldn't find one anywhere. I hope it is just the pump that decided to pack in and not a faulty RCM that caused it to.
When I checked the RCM it looked like new, no visible soildering issues or dirt or anything. I've replaced the check valve and I guess if the new pump doesnt solve the CEL issue, then RCM has to be next on the shopping list!

Re: p0410 secondary air injection system malfunction solution?
Just put 2+2 together and noticed that you are having problems with the Air Pump and/or the RCM.
I've noticed that a few of the RCMs that I have received for repair (mine included) have burnt contacts on the relay that controls the air pump. Cleaned my contacts after receiving the PO410 and haven't had the problem since.
My 2 cents.

Hi Guys,
Black03AR
I would monitor the board.
Can a picture of the board with the area in question be circled. This way others in the forum can attempt this clean/fix?
Just an idea. I didn't see this exact issue in the forum addressed in a visual DIY guide.

The area of concern is the contacts on the outside relay (thinking the left as you look at it) . Look to see if the contacts are black (BLACK is bad). I used a very small piece of folded fine sandpaper to get in between the contacts to clean mine. Perhaps a tinny tiny file, or if you can still find one, a contact burnisher might also work.

You do not want to make the contacts rough so use a 600 wet/dry emery paper to clean them. They have smooth surfaces for a reason. If they are plated you do not want to rub of the plating unless necessary.
Re: p0410 secondary air injection system malfunction solution?
Hi Guys,
I also changed the check valve. It was 40 bucks.
This was in conjunction with my secondary new air pump.
The CEL hasnt come on so far. Took all of 30 minutes to replace.
Just make sure you have a 5/16 wrench handy for the bolt on the pump.

Re: p0410 secondary air injection system malfunction solution?
I have a 2004 crossfire, I drove it about 5 miles parked it for about 3 to 4 hours. I started it up to head home, and on the way I stopped to get a soda. I started it up a drove home, when I got to the house it all of the sudden died in the driveway. I tried to restart and it would just turn over. This is the first time it happened. I had been driving the car most of the day yesterday was doing fine, then the car died. It did not start right away, after letting it sit for about 30 mins it restarted. It did this to me 2 more times before I could get it home. Each time I waited about 30 mins or longer before it would restart.
Anyone have any ideas of what it might be.
