2006 Crossfire won't start
Hi All,
I have been reading and reading to try and workout the issue with my fathers 2006 Crossfire.
So here's the story, he had an occasion a few months ago where he was driving along and the engine cut out and wouldn't restart but would keep trying to turn over, called the AA, they picked the car off and dropped it to the garage. When they when to try start it in the morning it started fine so he picked it up and brought it home.
Since then he lost his keys, some guy came out to sort a replacement key from his insurance where he tried replacing the a small module behind the clocks which i think is called the skreem and the ecu along with programing a new key, but not a key with the central locking buttons on it. After doing whatever it was he was trying to do he couldn't get the car to even turn over. He reinstalled the old units and left him with the new key, after this he went away and my dad's been trying to deal with the insurance who don't want to know and the key company are saying it's not their fault... Ahhh aren't insurance companies brilliant!
Since this i have decided to start looking at it as i have a bit of knowledge with cars and can normally find answer through forums ect. With this I'm struggling.
There is some questionable wiring in the box where the RCM is located where it looks asif a relay has been bypassed with a new external one.
He had a spare key which he had lost and i have since managed to find it which i hoped would sort the issue, nope exactly the same. Also something to mention is that the central locking worked perfectly before but it doesn't anymore. If you press the lock button you can see the indicators flash but the air pump doesn't actuate but if you press the unlock button it will actuate and unlock the doors..
So i started playing around and researching. I have taken the RCM out, cleaned the contact points on the relays, flowed plenty of fresh solder into every joint on the back of the board and checked all of the fuses, reinstalled it to find no change.
In regards to the external relay I put everything back how it should be and still had the same issues.
I have tried the key re-sync procedure but that didn't make any difference.
I have tried removing the negative battery terminal for over 30 mins, put it back on and that made no difference.
After all of the above I decided to strike the negative battery lead with terminal and then it tried turning over a bit and stopped..
This is as far as i have got but am now seeking advice from some more knowledgeable fellas such as yourselves.
I will make a video shortly to show you all what i am referring to exactly.
Any ideas, straight off the bat?

It is impossible to know what is going on, but let me offer this:
What is "keep trying to turn over"? Did the starter engage or not? Be clear or we can't help. If it stalled and the starter engaged but it would not start, then did start once cooled off, you probably have a bad crank position sensor. Easy fix.
How the hell is this an insurance claim? (Don't answer, I don't care why you think that.)
You are describing a scenerio where the SKREEM was suspect (as that is behind the speedometer), and it sounds like the person working on this didn't really understand what he was doing.
So the car's RCM had a bad relay, the person working on it could not find a new relay that fit and fitted an external relay. I've seen this done before. No big deal, but not how I'd do it.
THis one makes NO sense.
"... strike the negative battery lead with terminal..." I have no clue what that means.
I have watched your videos, two thoughts:
1) THe wiring has been altered, there is no way I am going to waste time on this unless you order a new RCM and restore the wiring to factory. It is a waste of time to try to decode what some asshat has done to the car when that kind of alteration has been done. The relay is not a big deal, but this tearing into the Fan Controller like that is nonsense.
2) The second video shows us that the SKREEM is not authorizing a start. The SKREEM is bad or the RFID chip in the key is missing or not the mating chip or the ECU is bad. You can send the SKREEM, Key and ECU to Josh at the MSS and he can fix that for you for $400 to $650, depending on what is wrong.

WHY would someone mess with something as simple as the FCM?
