Error code P0410...& all these Secondary Tagalongs
Error code P0410...& all these Secondary Tagalongs
I had my 2004 Coupe in this morning for its’ first NYS Inspection. No problems found except for the dreaded Engine Light, ( which I knew to be P0410 because of Advanced Auto”s Free diagnostic )
What I wasn’t aware of were all the additional codes that showed up on my mechanics diagnostics reader..........which I have listed here.
When I picked up the car he showed me all the codes and said I have a 10 day extension for inspection.....so drive for about a day with 20 miles added on the odometer - and if the light doesn’t return, come back and we will sticker the car”. If it doesn’t clear.... we can begin to solve your problems.
.......and here I thought the P0401 was the only error and it might have 3 or 4 different causes......all of which you have nicely detailed on this site.
My question is ....with the procession of all these additional codes, does this pose lots of diagnostics ?.....each with its own problem ?, or all they all somehow related ? Might there be a common denominator that makes this all go away ?
I would add that this garage has been my friend for 30 years. Honest, quick to offer suggestions and heads up on what they see might be potential problems down the road. Not cheap, but I really trust my cars with him, his experience and opinions.
Looking forward to the PHD’s of Crossfire Higher Learning.

Was the CEL (check engine light) off when you picked it up?
If yes, your mechanic has cleared the codes and wants you to "cycle" the car several times to see which codes will return. Some codes take several start/stop/trips to set and/or clear. You have been asked to run the cycle a number of times so the mechanic can start with a fresh information.

Thanks zip.....yes it was off and I knew what he was saying. My question has to do with the other error codes who tagged along....and how complicated is this going to be. Like I said, is there one problem that is common to the rest ?

Re: Error code P0410...& all these Secondary Tagalongs
There is a common theme. The 02 sensors and the code P0410 for the air pump are related and could clear with one fix. The EGR valve, and coolant temperature sensor may be something else.
The longer you ran with the check engine light on the more codes it could have piled up. None of it sounds too serious.

Re: Error code P0410...& all these Secondary Tagalongs
In your search of the forum did you see the correction for most P0410 problems is corrected by replacing worn contacts on the Relay Control Module (RCM)? One of our members provides us great service by refurbishing your RCM for like $30. It is a fast turn around and saves you a good bite of money.
You can do more research just by placing P0410 in the search box. If you are still running the original RCM then it would be wise to let him refurbish it for you. email: tighed1@hotmail.com for his help.

Re: Error code P0410...& all these Secondary Tagalongs
Ref : searching the site....yes I have and I grouped the p0410 fixes together waiting for the inspection and seeing what I am facing (like you I don’t think it’s a money pit problem)”.....but didn’t expect the number of codes to be this high.
I sent tinged an email last week but he has not responded. I have planned on doing this in early September.

Another Happy Ending ,,
Drove 30 miles yesterday with no check engine light and dropped it at garage. Saint Christopher Crossfire answered my prayers and worked his Magic......and lo and behold, the gremlins stayed away. I now have an inspection sticker good for a year.
My garage guy said he was praying to Saint Judas, the patron Saint of Mechanics.
Good always wins !
