Trunk won't open, top won't go down.
Trunk won't open, top won't go down.
Wazzup All?
I'm a newbie here so please forgive if I make a misstep. Just got a convertible. Sensor alarm goes off when I try to put down top. Can't get trunk open to see what is wrong with sensor settings (which is, I suspect, the problem, same as baby benz.) How do I pop the trunk without doing damage and are there any tips to resetting sensors for top mechanism? Any help would be much appreciated!

Re: Trunk won't open, top won't go down.
The first thing is to get the tool that should have been in the glovebox. Its a specialty wrench , that allows you to unlock the trunk ,if it does not unlock when you turn the Dring to put the top down. Ragtop owners will chime in, right about here..

Re: Trunk won't open, top won't go down.
OK Steve, I'll chime in.
The 'speciality' tool does NOT unlock the trunk, it unlocks the tonneau cover, but first you have to open the trunk and use a 6 mm hex wrench to unlock the rear bow.
Notice I said "open the trunk".
Here's the rub : the electric interlock on the trunk latch is probably hung locking the trunk.
There has been 'some' luck in removing the driver side tag light and going through that hole with a coat hanger hook to pull the emergency trunk release cable.
If you do get lucky and get it open, you should remove the electric interlock tip piece so this does not happen again.
Use search, pizzaguy did quite a write-up in this.
actually, this seems easier : ( passenger side tag light )

With the light housing out you can see the locking mechanism. Look for the electric lock plunger (circled in red) and use a screwdriver to move it to the right. This will release the electric lock. Then use the screwdriver to actuate the trunk latch be pushing the sliver lever down. You can spot the latch left of the electric lock.

He is certified. Have you noticed that he posts only on weekends? That's because he gets to go home on weekends as long as he is back at the funny farm by 6pm on Sunday night.
No kidding.
