Default WTF... O happy 4th!!

So this is my problem. Got a leak from oil filter cap and leaked on belt.It slipped so I towed home to replace. After cutting belt from pulleys I replaced and now when I Start car it sounds kind of like the cps with the same no turn over but this time it sounds like all starter and not the normal crank and no start. I have a cps and will replace in the morning. I also had a little back fire of smoke. Have you guys run into this?
little more details. 2004 coup 170000 pulleys turn just noise is very electric with none of the turn over kind of sound. Thanks for any advice.

Are you sure belt is on properly? Remove belt and start engine to see if noise goes away. If noise goes away, check each component.

Thanks for the reply. Yes it did the same noise with no belt
story again step by step. I was driving roughly 30 miles an hr. Lights go on all dash and no power at all. I glide into the closes business open good and there is belt shredded every where. I get it home and cut all the belt out the pulleys and wheels. I even cranked it to make sure all pieces out.
when I put the belt back on I get this. I'll check one more time Tho.. Thanks again for your help James.

Welcome to forum.
What part of indiana do you live?
I will be 30 min south of evansville next week.

That video is that of the noise with the belt on or off?

And you said the same noise happens if the belt is on and off correct?

Does motor appear like it is turning over as usual?

Is the noise like a starter that is spinning to easily?

If same noise happens with belt off, it would rule out pulleys, alternator and water pump.

So part of the belt shredded, not complete belt, the part of the belt toward front or toward engine?
Leave pieces of belt packed behind crank pulley?
But doesn't seem like the right noise.

Hard to tell from phone, sounds like mix between starter and valvetrain. Like timing chain, but that would be hard to believe on our engines, our setup should last along time.

Can you turn the motor over by hand

Lets first address that 'oil leak'? Did you just do an oil and filter change? The oil filter cap 'O' ring goes in the SECOND groove in the cap, NOT the top groove. People who put that 'O' ring in the top groove found out pretty quickly that oil leaked all over the front of the engine and caused the belt to slip off. Other than that leak, I hope nothing else is wrong. Did you check the oil level after getting the new belt? If it leaked I would suspect a low level. A few more facts might help us to help you further but first please make sure the 'O' ring is in the second groove on that oil cap and the oil level is correct.

Sorry to hear about your engine. There are a couple of low mileage engines for sale here on the forum. Send them a PM. You might get back on the road , for less than you think.

Was qurious about that on my post, but said it would be hard to believe.

Out of curiosity, any idea how bad and how much internal dmg?
Or just a spun main bearing, and get crank turned and oversized bearings ?

If you are going to look for another engine, I can call around evansville area next week if it would help you out ?
Let me know.

Ok, I'm confuzzed.

Is the drive belt being confused with the timing chain?
A failed drive belt won't destroy the engine.

The noise in the video sounds like no compression at all.

Possible just not very probable
I was qurious about timing chain.
If belt was unraveling from the inside, and got wrapped behind crank pulley and pressed itself through seal on timing cover and caught on chain and messed up the tensioner and made timing chain off and exhaust valve open on compression stroke.

I know I would like to see pics of the motor and what wrong with it.

$10 anyone can get a bore scope for there smart phones and look at pistons through spark plug holes, see if there was and dmg.

What makes them think the oil pump / bottom end is destroyed?
As I said, the video sounds like no compression.

I'm amazed a drive belt could get behind the pulley, make it's way in, and cause damage, but anything is possible I suppose?

Anyhow, deffo sounds like a timing chain failure and pistons have hit the valves.
That being the case (and providing the pistons are undamaged) you may get away with just a new chain & tensioner, plus a top end rebuild with a few new valves.

Let us know the result buddy.

PS: Is the starter motor deffo engaging with the flywheel??
