Default Spoiler activation and interior light issue

Hi !

I just got a used 2005 Crossfire coupe 2 weeks ago and I have an issue with my spoiler and interior light.

Here is the listing of my problem :
- My rear spoiler can not be deployed manually or automatically
- The red light in the middle of the spoiler button is always blinking
- Before turning on the engine, I hear a signal alarm for a couple of second but when the engine is started, all the lights on the dashboard are off
- Also before turning the engine I think I hear a kind of electrical motor noise on the rear, but I am not sure it's coming from the spoiler since I have never heard the noise it makes before
- Additionally, my interior light is not working
- And cigarette lighter socket doesn't deliver any tension

That's why I am thinking it's probably not coming only from the spoiler.

I have seen on the forum, that changing the battery can fix this kind of problem. I just did that (I bought a gold battery from advance auto part) but nothing has changer. Furthermore, I have seen that sometime some sensors need to be reset, I tried to turn the steering wheel left, right and then in the middle, but I am not sure to have succeeded.

Do you have an idea to figure out that ? (the fuse, the alternator, ....)

I have tried to be as precise as possible, but don't hesitate if you need more information.

Thank a lot in advance,

Mathieu

The noise you hear from the rear is the fuel pump running briefly to prime the fuel system.

If you haven't found it.. the main fuse block is fender side of the brake booster.. you should have a chart in it for your fuses.

I think you will find that the fuel pump operates all the time the ignition is in the on position, excess fuel is rerouted back to the tank.

Nop the fuses seems ok. I opened the fuses box and looked to the 20 (spoiler) and 31 (cigarette lighter socket) and I didn't see something special.

By the way I have seen that the 31 fuse is used for the cigarette lighter socket and the glove compartment light too. So my glove compartment light is working and I tried to plug a usb charger on the cigarette lighter socket. It lights the usb charger for just one second and then no tension.

Then that's just the normal cruddy lighter socket thing.
If the lighter was ever used, then the socket is gonna be cruddy.

Pull fuse 31 and see if you can get some emery paper in there on a finger and clean the clamp thingeys, then blow it out with compressed air.
Once it's clean, try bending the clampers in just a tiny bit, then put fuse 31 back in and give it a shot.

You want a Mercedes shop, not a dealer, who knows the problems these cars can have.
Did all of these happen at once? Probably not, my guess is a speed sensor problem, maybe in a wheel. Brake lights maybe a brake pad switch gone out.

hi,yes all happened when battery changed, fitted new wheel sensors, checked bulbs and power supply to brake lihts,i did notice that passenger side had a brake pad wear indicator, but not drivers side?wife has had car for 5yrs,only got 12,000miles on clock.Car has been perfect until battery change.then no speedo, spoiler up,switch flashing,abs/esp loights on,bulb warning light on.roof and windows fine.mercedes dealer does not want anything to do with it.mechanic at bosch centre worse than useless,i know bosch centres can acessthe codes by going to mercedes w170,slk320,as a friend had it done at his bosch centre, trouble is thats over 100miles without brake lights, thats scary in uk.

I thought all wheels had sensors, they all have speed sensors otherwise the BAS/ESP system fails to work.
The wear indicators and the speed sensors are in the same cluster I learned.

You are correct 180 all four wheels have speed sensors but only the front has brake pad wear indicator sensor wires.

I would try the simplest things first, first thing is to verify you have the correct battery size for the car second thing check all connections and make sure they are tight and corrosion free and that the ground cable has no corrosion at the fender well then try disconnecting the ground Terminal and let it set for 30 minutes and then reconnect it making sure all connections are tight and clean and then restart it and see if it resets itself.

And as far as the brake pad wear sensor wire I don't believe it plays a part in your problem because it is a normally open circuit until the pad wears down and grounds The Wire but the one missing should be replaced at some point to make the system completely functional.

Just wondering.. "you had battery fitted".. as in someone installed it for you. Everything worked before this.. other than a dead battery? Car was this way immediately after battery installed? Chances battery was "fitted" backwards first?

That could be a very real possibility, but how in the world could you prove it. Would it have even started after having the polarity reversed? This sounds like a question for George.

I assume 'George' is me ?
If so, in my humble opinion, it would require a complete idiot(or mechanical savant) to hook up a battery backwards for 2 reasons :
The cables would not reach the terminals, and the cable ends/terminals are different sizes.

Yes George , l ment you. Nothing surprises me in today's world. I guess I should have asked a more directed question like what would happen to the circuitry if the polarity were reversed?

I had the same problems, bas/esp light and spoiler up when mice chewed the wire under the hood going to the speed sensor and wear indicator. The spoiler is a fail safe because it supposed to hold the rear of the car down above 62 MPH. if the computer is not getting reading from speed sensor the fin goes up.
I also had the same problem along with no crank, tranny limp mode, wear indictor light, brake light and asb light ,and bas/esp lights on dash. Along with no brake lights when pedal pushed. Cured it all with a new relay control module.
If you had none of this prior to battery change I would try the reset of computer first.
