Maf replacement and still runs cruddy
Maf replacement and still runs cruddy
I've changed the mad to the new one after installing a CAI and now for some reason it runs worse than before. I can't accelerate for hardly ****. Did I do something wrong? I know some cars new to re-learn or need the computer to reset so the maf reads right. Is that the case here? You guys have always been helpful with everything here, I'm hoping to get this fixed asap! Help!
Re: Maf replacement and still runs cruddy
Define "new one"
Did a "new one" come with the CAI ?
You should always use the original MAF when you install a NW CAI on an NA.
maxchicon and I installed my single CAI ( second hand, got it from a guy in San Diego ) at his home in Auburn, I immediately drove home ( 70 miles ) and had no issues at all.
That was 4 years ago, no issues since.

You need OLD sensor if you installed a new 74mm MAF body and CAI, or just the CAI.
Re: Maf replacement and still runs cruddy
I bought a maf off eBay awhile back and tried to install it and the car ran worse than before, so I figuredit was either a bad eBay part or im not doing something right? I tried unplugging both terminals for well over an hour and checked the connections with the plug when I plugged it back in. I know some cara need to relearn a new maf sensor. I'm at a loss honestly. It'll drive but studders hard at 30 to the point I should pull over. I've also checked vacuum leaks and everything seems okay. I'm not stranger to turning Wrench's but this is baffling as hell😬
Re: Maf replacement and still runs cruddy
I installed the body with the sensor inside it. Where can I get the 74mm maf body?? I've heard of doing this mod but I can't seem to find anyone with one
Re: Maf replacement and still runs cruddy
I've attempted this and to no avail. Its still spuddering hard :/
Re: Maf replacement and still runs cruddy
I connected the original maf and it still runs the same, so I unplugged it while the car was idling and it didn't change how it ran so it has to be a bad maf. Its possible that the one off eBay is a dud right? I mean I spent like 30$ on it so I'll take the bite out of my wallet and buy a boshe if need be. So I don't need to have a computer reset my computer in my car or anything, (when I get a new one) it should just be plug and play correct?

Re: Maf replacement and still runs cruddy
When you are talking about the MAF are you meaning the plastic elbow pipe or the MAF sensor that screws into the plastic pipe OR both? If you replaced the plastic pipe then you may have a problem with it seating properly. If we are just talking about the Sensor that screws into the MAF a new Bosch may cure the problem BUT, If the car is idling that bad you should have a trouble code. Have you read DTCs ?? Go to any auto parts store and ask them to read the trouble codes BEFORE you buy any new parts.

Re: Maf replacement and still runs cruddy
I cannot follow this at all, I get mixed up with the MAF and MAF housing. I think I would be tempted to start out with the original parts on the car, see what code is set and go from there.
In other words find out the basic problem before trying to solve it by adding other parts that may compound the problem.
We expect you still are using the original MAF sensor it may only ha needed cleaning and you may have replaced it with a broken one. Who knows, get back to square one and start again.

Re: Maf replacement and still runs cruddy
I read this tread for 5 times and I guess you bought a new MAF from eBay and not a Bosh so in fact a generic thing which won't work. You want to use either a 68mm MAF + Throttle = stock from Bosh or do the 74mm mod = MAF housing + Throttle body from Bosh.
Moreover I read that your original MAF isn't working properly so
1 you need a new MAF with Sensor from Bosh
2 don't buy generic MAF/Sensor
3 keep it 68mm stock or do the 74mm throttle + MAF mod from BOSH only ( used works too )
4 onve you installed the new MAF either 68 or 74 do a throttle reset, it didn't work for me so I just unplugged the negative batterie for a hour and then it worked.
5 any questions ?
