My BAS ESP light comes on while driving?
My BAS ESP light comes on while driving?
The brake peddle is mushy now. Then when I stop and turn off the key switch then start the engine the light is off. But after driving about 5 miles the ESP BAS light comes back on. I pulled the wheels check the brakes and they are like new. I am now not sure what to do. Our Chrysler service dept is the most crooked outfit there is. I will not go there for any service. They are one ripoff outfit. Any help I need.
Re: My BAS ESP light comes on while driving?
At each of the 4 wheels, there is an ABS sensor, the only thing with wires on it near the wheel. There is a spinning part of the axle or brakes that has notches in it, the sensor detects the magnetic change as the gaps spin past. If there is rust build up, or a problem with the sensor, that "could" cause a malfunction. This "should" also cause the spoiler to raise, but if you have a SRT6, obviously not. It is covered in page 5-332 of the 2005 service manual,

Re: My BAS ESP light comes on while driving?
I tried turning the steering wheel all the way left then all the way right, did not make any difference. When the the BAS and ESP light is on and I stop and turn off the key switch then restart the car the light is off. BUT you half to drive 5 miles before the light comes back on and stays on. I don't think driving the car will hurt anything I hope. I am still in limbo what to do next to correct the problem.
Re: My BAS ESP light comes on while driving?
Mushy peddle? bleed the brakes or change the oil as there is not much more effort with the wheels off.

Re: My BAS ESP light comes on while driving?
Do the simplest things first unplug each speed sensor wire and then plug it back up at all four corners and then go and drive it and see if that fixes the problem with the light, there are two wiring harness plugs at each of the front wheels and one plug at each of the rear wheels, unless you have experience at bleeding the brakes do not do this yourself expecially with abs systems you can really screw it up if not done right, leave that to someone who knows what they're doing, by the way I made my living for 13 and a half years as a Certified mechanic so I know what I'm talking about.

The ABS we have does not require special treatment.
Re: My BAS ESP light comes on while driving?
Many on here have bled their own brakes, me included. I have seen one problem in all the time I have been here. You may be great as a mechanic, but I have spoken to some so called mechanics who did not know their *** from their elbow.

Re: My BAS ESP light comes on while driving?
The point I was simply trying to make 180 was that if a person has no experience in bleeding brakes whether it is an abs system or not you should learn how to do it first before attempting it that's the only point I'm trying to make, I'm not trying to get into a pissing match with you or anybody else, take the advice or not it doesn't matter to me.
Anyone who wants to pay can of course go to a mechanic, but a simple bleed job can lead to large bills for unneeded repair work. My philosophy is to do it if you can be bothered and watch carefully what the garage says you need to have done if you can't.
That is my point, nothing more and nothing less.

Where are you going to learn how to do it if you do not try or if possible get a knowledgeable friend to help you. This forum and the net is full of money saving tips on how to do simple tasks. The person who does his own work should be aware of his own limitations though.

As a "mechanic".. wouldn't one think address the mushy pedal first? Just seems most logical to me..
Live long and prosper.
Re: My BAS ESP light comes on while driving?
Picky picky picky! besides he seemed to put more emphasis on the light than on the briefly mentioned mushy brake pedal so I figure I would address that first .
Re: My BAS ESP light comes on while driving?
I have the kit to flush the brake system. First suck all the fluid out of the bowl then wipe it out to be clean so no dirt is in there. Then fill it up with dot 4. Now you are ready to bleed brake lines but watch the bowl so it won't go dry. Do that on all 4 wheels. That what I am going to do. Hope that take care of the problem. I have done that on my 39 Ford Conv. Boy was it rusty when I did it.
