Airbag Light on and do we have passenger weight sensors?
Airbag Light on and do we have passenger weight sensors?
Good day, I recently purchased a beautiful Alabaster Crossfire from a dealer and on my first road trip I noticed the airbag light came on and remained on, no blinking or pulsing. This is the light to the left of the fuel gauge, not the one north of the gearshift. I've been combing through the forums here and it sounds like this is a rather nasty issue that requires a Mercedes Star Diagnostic Tool. From what I gather, my only option is to have a dealer reset the light (~$110).
Not wanting to set foot in there, I took it to a mechanic with a DRB III tool who was unable to get into the system but suggested the issue could be with the passenger weight sensor, as the airbag off light (north of the gearshift) is dark with nothing in the seat. I didn't see anything in the manual about a weight sensor, and since we (US owners) have a keyed on/off switch that would seem redundant. It does appear the seats are wired to the restraint system, but I believe that would just be the seat buckle contact. Do we have a weight sensor? I'd hate to have the dealer take me for a ride selling me one if all he does is reset the code.
Any other ways to clear the light would be greatly appreciated. I'm not overly thrilled with shelling out more cash to fix a dumb computer issue.
Thanks all!

Re: Airbag Light on and do we have passenger weight sensors?
There is no weight sensor in the seats. When the passenger airbag is turned off by the switch at the end of the instrument panel ( you must open passenger door to access) then the yellow Passenger Off light in the center console will illuminate.

You might try just disconnecting the battery ground for 10 seconds. Unless there is an issue with the airbag system, The light should clear.

The switch on the A frame pillar is to switch of the passenger side air bag for when a rear facing baby seat is installed on the passenger seat. As one would not want an air bag deploying with the baby seat in place. Maybe it switches off the seat alarm as well, why not.

Re: Airbag Light on and do we have passenger weight sensors?
The air bag module on these cars can also fail for no reason. Mine did shortly after having the motor mounts replaced. I sourced a used one from ebay and put it in and the light went out itself. I didnt even have to have a shop reset it.
Re: Airbag Light on and do we have passenger weight sensors?
Its a MB bosch part 0018200826.
They used it for multiple MB's. It will fit all xf's no matter the trim.
The part number listed for Mopar is ZG31ARKAA but just search for the MB part number.
