MB slk owner here!

Does an antenna ring and SKREEM have to bought together?

I purchased an antenna ring because the shielded cable that attaches was damaged on the original causing no start issue.

Was told that the ring was not VIN specific but upon connecting it I am still not able to start.

Did the bad antenna short the SKREEM or do I just need to flash the unit?

Any help is appreciated!

The antenna ring is just that, a passive antenna and coax cable.

You have not described the symptoms. Is it a "crank but not start" or a "cranks three times, then nothing till I disconnect the battery" situation?

If you can 'flash' the SKREEM, you should be fixing all of our cars that have bad SKREEMS.

pizzaguy;940310, you obviously know more about this issue than I do as I only started looking at the SKREEM as the problem, TODAY!

WHY? AS I briefly mentioned I have had INTERMITTENT PROBLEMS with the KEYS, BATTERY, ALARM...ETC!

I FIGURED THAT BREVITY WOULD GET THE MOST VIEWS AND RESPONSES! BECAUSE WHO REALLY WANTS TO READ A 1000 WORD COMPLAINT?

It appears that one cant answer my questions without a complete play by play diagnostic workup. I thought they were very simple...'Does the transponder antenna and skreem module have to be purchased together?'

I'm assuming your answer is NO since 'it's just an antenna' but I also suspect you dont really know since you ask the symptoms.

Would different symptoms require a different answer? No crank no start means YES ANTENNA RING AND MODULE MUST BE PURCHASED TOGETHER but A crank no start means NO, THE ANTENNA RING AND MODULE CAN BE PURCHASED SEPARATELY!

I obviously didn't know that the SKREEM module can not be purchased anywhere when I originally posted here.

So now my question is since everyone has issues with their skreem module and it cant be repaired, new ones cant be bought and it disables the vehicle!

What can be done? Nothing is not possible!

With you being an SLK owner I think you have way more options than we do. I’m pretty sure you guys can still purchase new Skreems, Keys etc. Us XF owners are on the outside looking in as we cannot do either. Maybe I’m wrong but I’m positive you can still purchase replacement keys which therefore I would think you could also purchase a new SKREEM.

That sucks about crossfire being screwed! So if I can get one...that goes to my original question! Does the transponder ring and SKREEM module have to be purchased together?

point being the car started with a new key.

The next day it would not start and I discovered the damage to the ring wiring.

I ordered a new ring and the car is not starting!

Is it the ring? Is it the SKREEM? Why would the Skreem suddenly be bad?

Is there some sort of SYNC process that I'm not doing?

I just dont want to purchase the screen module to find out The pCMTor ECU have to be replaced...where does it end?

Just a wild shot, but have you tried disconnecting the negative battery terminal for 20 minutes ?

Not knowing anything about the MB SLK setup, are you SURE it is the SKREEM/antenna module problem your experiencing? I haven't seen anything regarding the crossfire SKREEM symptoms with your MB SLK. An antenna can be had from recyclers without buying a whole SKREEM/antenna setup BUT... $$$$$

IF your no start condition isn't a SKREEM issue, you will be just THROWING PARTS at it. These parts are VERY EXPENSIVE! The SKREEM issue for the Crossfire is three attempts at starting (cranking) then NOTHING until you disconnect the neg cable of the battery (then wait) then reconnect and the three attempts to start repeats until bat neg cable is removed again, then three cranks again. We ask questions because the cost of throwing parts at it is too high, unless you have a deep pocket.. You have not yet said that this is what is happening. WHY do you think it is the SKREEM????? This is why ppl are asking questions. Any SLK antenna ring will work! IF this bothers you, then go to a MB mechanic and just tell them to fix it.

No, I asked because I wanted to know what we are chasing here. The question about the ring is simple - it is generic. It's a simple antenna ring.

That is impossible, is the new key made for your skreem module? You can't take a used key and mill only a new blade. Inside of the key is a transponder who have to be programmed to your skreem. And a antenna ring is a simple winding wire. So as Pizzaguy tells you is it an genetic part.

There are three parts who have to work together, skreem, transponder in the key-fob and the ECU. So you can't change only one part. The ECU can (and have to) be programmed for an other skreem with suitable transponders.

But before you change some parts be sure it's a problem with the skreem and not the RCM or a sensor. If it is the skreem the car starts and runs for a few seconds before it dies. And this three times, after that you have to disconnect the battery and have also three attempts...

I love it when a person who knows little criticizes someone who knows the answers and is trying to help them. Not describing their symptoms fully does little to help someone solve the problem.
I would not waste my time on such people.
