electrical Gremlin- Roof/spoiler flashing light issue again
electrical Gremlin- Roof/spoiler flashing light issue again
Over the past couple of years, I have had the spoiler light flashing problem. (the roof wont go down, or if its down, wont go up)
With a reset the problem went away and only came back every six months or so. Now its back almost all the time. With the light off, everything works 100%, but with the spoiler light flashing, the roof wont go up or down, also the spoiler wont go up or down using the button, but strangely works fine when you drive the car (deploys at 65 mph etc.)
I have tried replacing all the relays, had the ECU tested - no problem found, so now trying to find a garage or dealer who actually KNOWS the crossfires.
I have tried various Mercedes dealers who wont even look at the car as its not a merc, (even though it is under the skin) Also tried the Chrysler dealers, including the new "Fiat" dealers who are supposed to know and support the crossfires. So far I cant find one who can recognise a crossfire let alone fix it!
So does anyone know a REAL crossfire electrical specialist - dealer, garage, independent - anyone who can help (one who actually knows- rather than the sort who just replace things until it works. I can do that!
Ideally in the Guildford, Portsmouth, Basingstoke area..
Its a 2006, convertible.
Help please!!!

Re: electrical Gremlin- Roof/spoiler flashing light issue again
What condition are the battery terminals and battery ground lug in? How old is the battery? Does the yellow traction light in the speedo ever come on?
I might also add that the common denominator here is less the ecm/ptcm and more the bcm. The most common reason for the bcm to act up is "dirty" or noisy power, this is often caused by an old battery or cruddy terminals/ground lug

No the traction light never comes on, only the spoiler light constant flashing.
I will try a new battery, but volts are good. Where is the bcm ? Replaceable or serviceable?
Thanks for your help. Will try the earths, terminals and report back.
