Default Side mirror blowout

[/b]Cant believe this one.
Put the X-fire in garage the other night.Covered it as I always do....
Next morning uncover it.....to find the passenger side mirror completely broken.
Nothing hit...nothing touched. No marks or scrapes...I should know I put the car away.
The only indication was that both mirrors were ON FIRE!!Very hot.
Has to be a sensor problem right????
It would make complete sense....
Took the car into Chrysler this morning...just heard back from them.
They are arguing that it had to be hit.
My word against theirs.
Now I wait a week for the new mirror...
Digusted.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

This bullshit is not acceptable. Talk to the manager, be pleasant, if that doesn't work quickly, ask him for the regional Chrysler phone numbers.

I assume they are not a 5 star dealer as one or two complaints can remove the 5 star rating.

Take your service work to another dealer if one is close enough. The dealerships are not guaranteed of your service business just because you buy a car from them.

No offense, but I don't believe this for a second.... or does the complaint have to be directed at some other avenue than the survey that arrives in the mail?

Hey that reminds me.... the time I went ballistic about Five Star ineptitude at Bill Luke Chrysler in Phoenix, AZ I never got a survey in the mail. Wonder if those A-holes intercepted it knowing what the results would be.

Side note to Chrysler buyers in the Phoenix, AZ area... if you buy from Bill Luke they will tell you that "If you have a problem that you can't get resolved to your satisfaction {current owner} Don Luke wants to hear from you personally." Guess what, it's total BS. I tried like hell to reach Don Luke personally and his GM wouldn't let me past the gate. Worst part is that he insulted me with nonsense like "he's out of town, etc.".

I assume so...since I hav'nt seen anyone else with the problem.
They said the mirror has to be ordered from Louisiana....will take a week or so to receive.
I am definitely not finished with them...
I am the one who put the car away and woke to see a shattered mirror for no reason other than the mirrors were both on fire.

I have the number to Chrysler...I will make a phone call.
The service tec h basically called me a liar...without using those words!
Shameful!

The way I read it, she's saying they performed the procedures outlined in the TSB related to rear hatch rattle.

If I'm reading this right your question is.... What's a TSB? If that's the question, a TSB is a Technical Service Bulletin. It outlines the fix for a given problem. You can look in the TSB area a see what TSBs are out for the Crossfire.

When I had the car in a couple of months ago for its first oil change..I told them that this "rattle" was not acceptable. The tech couldnt adjust properly... so....the service manager found a TSB from Chrysler......My thoughts are...My X-Fire only has 3300k on it...and as much as I am in love with the car...all these little quirks should be honored by Chrysler!Maybe Mercedes should take over service...What a pipedream that is!!

Every car model has quirks, there's no such thing as 'the perfect car' once repeated 30k+ times. But that's why the TSB's exists, to inform dealerships how to fix the nittle quirks. You should not have been charged to fix the "rattle".

David...
With all due respect I understand that "no car is without its quirks".
Being a Ferrari owner..I understand more than anyone...cars are their own entity.
I did not pay for the TSB on the latch.I am just expressing frustration...that a car comapny can mass produce a model and then know very little about fixing them.

I can understand your frustration. But, in defense of the dealers I think the biggest problem is that this car has only been out for a year now and in not very big numbers. I think around 24K units worldwide, by now. The Crossfire Tech.s go through school and get certified and like most things you learn if you don't use it you start losing it. I think we will see that as time passes, the tech.s will have no problems. I do agree with you that the MB folks should be helping their Chrysler brethren until all dealers are up to speed on the car.

I get your drift. It was MUCH worse 6 months ago, you should have SEEN the daily posts in here about crappy service from dealers all over the world. Either the car is getting better now that Karmann has worked out the first year production issues, or the dealers are finally getting up to speed on this car (or combo of both), cuz the reported problems are much less frequent these days.

I wish all the problems would go away, cuz I've heard horror stories about both of the Chrysler dealerships that are close to me. I'm hesitant to even take it in for an oil change! Others have gone to M/B dealerships for oil changes, and though expensive had all reported satisfactory results. It is, after all, an SLK320 underneath, so any Benz dealer would have the parts and tools to properly perform maintenance services, just not the D/C authorization to perform WARRANTY service if any was required at the same time. Which is too bad...

I am just afraid that this issue will happen again.....

I think there's a section in the owner's manual regarding how to contact D/C if you have a disagreement with your servicing dealer. Something like a corporate region office, or along those lines... Call them.
