Default Radio replacement

the dealer cost of the radio that comes with your new CrossFire is: $850
I spent $850 and purchase a pin compatible Sony CDX-M9900 radio and
guess what? The Sony radio drives all the speakers! The Sony radio has
a readable display in daylight! The Sony Radio supports a rear view
camera! (just ground the parking brake wire so that you can have
video on all the time). Why on earth did Chrysler install such a
stupid factory radio? My sound system with my CrossFire built-in
amplifier is outstanding using the replacement Sony CDX-M9900
radio. Note: although everything was included in the box to replace
the factory radio including a pin compatible adaptor, I had to buy one
more item: a BMW antenna adaptor cable to connect the antenna wire
to the radio. The sound system BOOMS!!!!

Default how do I get the factory radio out?

How do you get the factory radio out? Just visit your friendly dealership and borrow the "special" tools they have and it pops out,.. the Sony radio slides in and comes with it's own "special' tools to get it out. p.s. the cable harness to the radio is LONG so you have plenty of space.

Howdy Radar...

That Sony unit has 4 volt preamp outputs (front, rear, and sub). Did you patch directly from the front or rear preamp outputs to the input of the factory crossover/amp?

Does ANYONE know what the input specs for voltage are for the Crossfire crossover/amp??? I see heads offered with a wide variety of voltage ratings on their preamp outputs, ideally that should be matched to the Crossfire's input for best sound quality.

See in my gallery the audio circuit from the service manual:

But it doesn't show the voltage, sorry.

Thanks, but if that's supposed to be mentioning what voltage the head unit puts out, I'm not seeing it.

No patches! All I did was plug in the cable adaptor that came in the box and ground the green parking brake wire. That's it! After installation I noticed that front, rear, and sub speakers work at any volume whereas the original factory installed HARMAN/BECKER radio only drove the rear & sub when set to high volume level, plus the sound level quadrupled! What was maximum volume on the factory radio is half volume on the Sony. When the Sony is set to maximum volume and music with extra bass played then my CrossFire vibrates the neighborhood!!! Of course, the neighbors don't like that so I only do it when driving on the highway.
Anyways, the factory amplifier works great when used with a radio like the SONY CDX-M9900.

That's EXACTLY why I'd like to know the input voltage spec for the Crossfire crossover/amp. Your installation sounds like the head is overdriving the amp. But hey, if it sounds good to you, then congrats! Me, I'd like to know the spec and find a head unit with matching voltage. Hopefully for your situation the factory crossover/amp is tolerant if you DO have a mis-match.

my guess is that the factory radio runs at half of what it was suppose to,
I dunno!!! and as you said, what counts is if I like it or not and I do. If this system stops working I will post here and let you know what happened.
