Default Lower Ball Joint: 57K miles

Hey All, just took the xfire in for a double wrench service at 57K. Steering felt loose so I took a stabilizer with me and let them know steering didn't feel right and that may be the issue. ( I basically have to hold the wheel to the leftmost side of the dead zone to go straight) Came back to pick it up and dealer said the Left lower ball joint needed to be replaced. (Kind of strange as it passed inspection last day in March) They said they like to do both at the same time (left and right) and quoted $550 with parts, labor, and alignment. Seemed a bit high but compared to the $650 stabilizer I figured it was not tooo bad.

Anyway just wanted to get a second opinion from the forum before doing anything (learned to do that first after I spent dealer price for the crank position sensor) I have had no issues with this dealer before, they have Crossfire techs and I have brought my own Mobil 1 the last 3/4 times and total cost for single/double wrench is only like 35 bucks.

Doing a search I found that some CLK ball joints were used HERE but no cost or part#

This Post says lower list price is only 52$. I only have the total cost listed on my sheet so not sure how much the individual part was listed for but that would mean $400 for labor and alignment, that sound right?

Should I be heading to the MB dealer for the parts and then back to the Chrysler dealership for the install? I have been planning to go Koni/Eibach for a while now and would rather put more towards that then overpaying for the ball joints.

Thanks for the help!

doesn't sound to bad actually. figure around 170$ for a 4 wheel alignment. 125 $ for the ball joints that leaves about 225 for the labor and its a fairly hard job without the proper tools. wouldn't hurt to get an itemized list from the dealer though

they wont care but if you drop it you will need eccentric bolts for the front and camber bars for the rear. oem m/b has the bolts and miker has the camber bars!
