Default Shift kit available for our cars! AKA: Silver Box

I just found this and read many threads that are all positive. The Nag 1 is the same transmission we have.

Electronic Shift Kit ( aka Silver Box) - LX Forums | Dodge Charger Challenger Magnum | SRT8 | Chrysler 300 Forum

Post from LX forum:

This will be the new home for the info on the Electronic Shift Kit...also known as the "silver box"...

original info:

Another of my current projects is to replicate what the famous "blue top" solenoids from the Maybach mercedes line do to the Nag1 transmission...but with the added benefit of adjustability...

I have a working prototype now that I am going to let a few local folks test for driveability.

I currently have it set up with 6 stages from stock ...to... "what the hell just hit me"

;-p

Settings 3-6 hit even harder than the blue tops.
(setting 1 is fully counter-clockwise while setting 6 is fully clockwise.)

My best "drivability" so far has been setting 3 with Diablo torque reduction.

My test box has 1 stock setting and 5 user selectable firmness settings that can be chosen "on the fly" after the car has been started.

So far, no codes. I'm still checking to see if I can make it so that you dont have to wait till the car is running to select 2-6 on the box...

heh...electronic shift kit...wheeeee...!!!!!

*******************************
So that was all old news...here's the current status as of July '09...

The electronic shift kit is now a reality. It is an aluminum box ( the box acts as a heat sink for the electronic components inside ) that has 3 wires that get ran to the TCM that sits below and to the left of the steering column. These 3 wires will connect via quick-disconnect T-taps that will be included. You will simply let the box sit beside/under the stock TCM...where there's plenty of room. The box includes a fuse on the power wire...just in case. The harness to the selector switch needs to be long enuff to keep the **** within reach, and up to 6' of wire can be included at no additional cost. The Magnum uses 1'...since there is a perfect place for the ****, as shown in the pics later on. Chargers and Challengers will likely have the box beside the shifter.

In operation, the current version can be left in any position at any time. There is no need to keep it in the stock setting while starting and then switch. That has been fixed with my latest version.

All settings are compatable with stock solenoids. The blue tops, when tested on a Jeep SRT8 with a 426 and a Techo supercharger, made it thru a 1/4 mile run and all 4 gears and then went into limp mode on throttle liftoff. I was't able to thoroughly test the setup, so I'll just run with "not likely compatable with blue tops".

The Electronic Shift Kit has not been tested with reprogrammed TCM's or modified valve bodies and is likely to raise the pressures beyond safe limits if used on such applications unless precautions are taken. The whole purpose of a reprogrammed TCM and/or valvebody is typically to increase pressure, which the box does by itself. If you have a TCM reprogrammed for increased shift points and you would like to also use the Electronic Shift Kit for adjustability, make sure that the programmer does NOT raise any of the pressures in the program.

(now the fine print)
The Electronic Shift Kit is sold as a high performance tuning aid. The results of my testing are listed below. As with all performance products, your results may vary and all related parts should be routinely inspected for any signs of stress. Related items to be inspected should include, but not be limited to: motor mounts, transmission mounts, u-joints, driveshafts, couplings and axles. These are items that should always be monitored when altering the output or driveline of ANY vehicle.

Performance Electronics makes no recommendations as to what setting to use, other than stock. All adjustments made are the sole responsibility of the purchaser. A 30 day trial period is provided, so that the purchaser can determine the suitability for the intended application.

setting 1 is bone stock.

setting 2 is a slight bit more firm. the shifts will feel different than stock and a bit quicker. you will actually "feel" the dip in TQ that the car's ecu has commanded during shifts.

setting 3 is more firm. you will start to feel a little bump in the shift. you will also notice that it takes less time to downshift and that the downshifts are a bit more aggressive.

setting 4 is firm. you get a noticable bump during shifts and the part throttle upshifts and downshifts become even more aggressive.

setting 5 is firmer. by this point, you know there's been work done to the tranny...you may even start to get tire chirp at higher revs.

setting 6 is firmest. it may not be suitable for a daily driver position for everyone. the upshifts and downshifts are very firm. stuff rattles...including your teeth. the transmission seems to now know what gear you want to be in as your pressing the pedal...mash the gas...it's in the perfect gear at the correct rpm...hang on.

as mentioned elsewhere...remember that this box causes part throttle shift firmness, which is where it has the greatest effect... the further you press the gas pedal...the less effect the box has on the tranny...due to the nature of how the tranny actually works. This is not to imply that there is NO effect at WOT...but to clarify that the neck-snapping shift on setting 6 at part throttle will not be applied ON TOP OF the already firm WOT shift that you already have.

The box has the greatest effect with a CMR tune that has had significant TQ management modifications done to take advantage of ALL of the TQ available during the shifting sequence...but it is not necessary...merely a no-cost option.

Since I am also a CMR tuner, I can help you out with the TQ management as needed...simply PM me for details. I will include, at no charge, a custom CMR tune for all Diablo customers.

I will be going to get parts for these in the coming days. Alot of the components have to be ordered...they are OEM electronics that you wont find on the shelf anywhere...

Pics...finally...

Box and wires...

Box Only...

Current ****...

Current **** installed in Magnum...

There is a much smaller and heavy duty ****/switch available...but it is a little too small in my opinion...the **** portion was only about 3/8" diameter...

All wires have braid covering and heat shrink ends. Wires to the selector switch can be custom cut to any length up to 6'...which should allow placement anywhere within reach.

I will be looking into a custom plate later on for remote **** placement in the Magnum/Chally/Charger as well...

-Freak

( side note- appearance may differ slightly from photos due to running changes that facilitate better manufacturing. function will remain identical. )

The electronic shift box will be sold for $250/shipped within the 48 states and includes all the necessary quick taps. Ordering will be done via private message and preferred payment will be thru a Paypal invoice sent to your personal email address. Once payment has been completed, the order will be processed and the box built ASAP, if there isn't one ready to go.

As part of he package, I will provide a custom CMR tune for additional TQ management reduction for those customers that have a Predator. I am also trying to negotiate a deal so that I can offer my customers a very good deal on a Predator unit as well. I will update this offer as soon as I can. Any questions can be directed to my email address @ 351Freak@gmail.com.

Thank you for your interest...

Check with Rudy on this first. I brought it to his attention about a year ago and I think he said it isn't compatable with our trans control unit.

Thanks why I went the modified valve body route.

Does not work on our cars. I tested this box last year and it immediately throws the trans into "safe mode". Very disappointing as this was a promising mod.

The guy who builds these is a very nice guy and is interested in doing the right thing vs. being out for a quick buck.

I'm no expert on the silver box but I think it only affects y/o adjusts part throttle shifting. At WOT the shifts are the same. It seems our best option is the blue tops. And I've heard LX owners complain about the hard downshifts with them.

Sad but true, I got SRT6_roadster and this guy hooked up and they tried it out but to no avail. Talked with him afterwards about working through the issues but nothing ever came of it.

On the cusp of getting it figured out via software but every promising development so far has been met with the damn thing not working.

If this would work on the Crossfire it could be the answer we are looking for... adjustable up-shifts and down-shifts....

I just sent him a PM to see if he would like to test this out with our cars. What has me worried is this not only watches the CAN signal in the cars but actually sends commands across it as well. Not sure how our car will respond to that so I guess we'll have to see. Hoping he calls me asap as this looks to be a good foundation to start with and since it's software, little changes should be relatively easy to implement.

I'll keep you guys posted and if anyone hears back from him, please keep me in the loop. It would be nice to get this to work to firm up the shifts as we need something that shifts harder than an old lady's buick!

if she would only shift like my old TH400....@7200 rpm look out, bang and away we go...3rd was at the end of the quarter...add the 3500 stall, couldn't beat the feel of leaving the line...when everyone in those days, had 3 or 4 speed tranny's...I was the only one running a B&M set up....they would always give me a hard time until the launch....lol

Dang Doc you make me wanta get my 67 Chevelle back on the road with talk like that!

I built the TH400 that's in it myself. Manual valve body, shift kit and trans brake. Lifts the wheels at the track. Love it!

Who's gonna be the first to lift wheels on a Crossfire???
