Default Cold Weather Engine Behavior

Hey all! I have a question for all you crossfire fanatics! One note though, I don't know much about what goes on under the hood, so hopefully you can "dumb-down" your responses for me!

I notice that in the cold weather, my crossfire slips when I accelerate. For example, when I give it a small amount of gas, the RPMs hit 3,000 for a second or two that catch back at the normal 1,500 or so. Once the engine heats up the problem goes away and I only experiece this in cold weather. Could this be a sign of a transmission problem or low fluid, or just a temper tantrum becuase my car likes the cold about as much as I do? Is there even a low trans fluid indicator light?

When you say slip do you mean the tires are losing traction or the rpms are just going up with no loss in traction?

If your tires are actually slipping its related to the temperature of your tires not the engine. You would probably see he traction control light come on though if the tires are slipping. Ex. The PS2s that come on the car are designed for summer weather and heat. If it drops below their designed temp they will be very hard and supply minimal traction until heated properly.

I think he may mean the tranny slips....or feels like it slips. I noticed mine did this yesterday. It was around 30degrees and when I accelerated my tranny seemed to hesitated and kick(slip feeling)???

Thanks for the quick response. To answer your question, no I don't think the tires are slipping.

Sorry, not sure then. (stick here) I wouldn't think its an indication of anything bad coming though, (but i'm no expert) I know when its cold my shifts are a noticeably stiffer but I just attribute it to the fact everything is a little more compact/tight when its been sitting in the cold all night. I had an old Ranger that I bought in Florida and it hated when it got cold here in Virginia. It would make all kinds of sounds and act a fool until it was warm again, never had any issues with it though.

You need to check the fluid level, I had posted a simple to make zip tie dip stick that worked swell. Look under my postings. Photos attached of my fluid and tie. Got atf at walmart here. Woody

Both Crossfires exhibit(ed) this kinda behavior when it gets cold.
And, at least in my case, it's the tranny.
Since both cars are over 70K in mileage I decided to have the tranny fluid replaced in the SRT - I mean, what the heck: the manual says that you should replace the transmission fluid at 80K; 71K isn't too far from that mark!
This solved the problem with the tranny slipping when cold on the SRT & it's been absolutely trouble free since then.
The '04 is next!
Be forewarned though: I had my done at the dealership & it ran around $225.

Hey all,
It's been -22 degrees C here in Glasgow and my XFire is very stiff in the mornings but once heated up a bit it runs great......
Was so surprised how quick the XFire heats up from those temps......
Only problem did have was the washer jets freeze up....No good

I have a new untouched Complete front end Crossfire protective mask by InvisibleMask.com. I paid like $400 and would like to pass it on to the forum since I ventilated the hood and went to Matt paint.

Coverage is for the lights, mirrors and hood / bumper areas. 100% complete including the CD for installation. Give the web site a look see and then make me an offer and Ill mail it to you. Otherwise Ill do the ebay thing, Enjoy, Woody Posted in wrong area sorry, WW
