Default radio LED brightness and daytime running lights

Has anyone been able to make the radio screen brighter so it can be seen. I am unable to read it in the light of day.
I am aware that the Canadian model has running lights. Can they be turned on or reprogrammed into an American model?
The car is otherwise fantastic!!

Everyone has the same problem with the radio. Has anyone spoken to a dealer/Chrysler about fixing/replacing it??

Dealer can't fix it because there is nothing to fix. The radio display is not broke, that's the way it is. Design oversight I guess.

There is an information sheet from Chyrsler that I read that basically says "one level of illumination" and cannot be adjusted.

Normally most head units have a "brighter" mode when the headlights are not on but this one doesn't.

Infinity's Web site also doesn't show any information about the Modulus series except for the Modulus home theater system which this head unit is supposed to be inspired by.

Great--that means that they are not going to do anything about it. How rediculous that they know one cannot read the radio in daylight, and yet they don't care. Not too smart if you ask me.

Hmmmm, well, I wouldn't say that they don't care. I'd give them a little time. Chrysler might be looking for a replacement right now or working with Infinity to remedy the problem.

I think it was just a case of Chrysler not spending enough time with the head-unit. Even before I heard of this problem, I had a feeling the stereo was going to be sort of slapped together. So far I have seen 3 different head units in the Crossfire. The original pictures of the interior had a black Mercedes head-unit. Then they just painted the face of that radio silver to match the center console. Not until very recently before the launch of the Crossfire did you see any pictures of the actual head-unit. I think if Chrysler had spent some time on the stereo, we would have seen a navigation system as well, and a head-unit that isn't impossible to read.

I find it interesting that the latest NYT review of the Crossfire which does have a specific section talking about the stereo didn't make any comments about the hard to read screen.

They instead knocked on the climate control ***** which they inaccurately indicated to be non-MB. Looks exactly the same as the SLK's ***** to me, just different color.

I'd be happy if they brought back the SLK's head unit, then perhaps there will be phone integration. I'm not concerned about XM.

Anybody been in an SLK lately? What's that compartment that is just above the center-stack air vents? Sunglass holder or room for a pop-up nav screen?

True--let's give them a chance, but I'm certainly not holding my breath. They really should replace them all--but who knows :?

I think according to the manual, in the 6-speed version if you have DRLs, the lights come on the moment you start the car and stay on.

I would hate that, I like to be able to turn off my lights if I really have to without turning off the car.

Why is there no direct website to Chrysler so we can get some answers from the top? I tried the non free number and after 5 minutes of waiting got disconnected. This car is not a Jeep!

gsopc, Chrysler has a very efficient phone system, unless you know who you want to talk to and/or their extension, all numbers will lead you to Customer Assistance eventually.

If you are in the US, just call the 800 number, save some money.

I haven't called Customer Assistance to give feedback on the illumination of the head unit, I guess we all should and get counted.

There is a direct web site to Chrysler, as I have already voice my concerns about the Radio LED Display. I have provide the link below.

I added my voice to what I hope will become a tidal wave of complaint that they cannot ignore. Come on everybody, join the chorus.
Mouserider- I'm pretty sure that thing above the vents is a cupholder that swings out. Someone over at SLK32.com wrote a how-to on installing a nav unit there. http://www.slk32.com/pages/navigation/navi.html

Let's get this problem settled quickly. All of us need to email Chrysler ASAP so that they realize that this situation needs to be rectified without any detriment to them or this wonderful car. I believe it is a safety issue as well as a pain in the butt. Let's use the power of the customer here.

Here is the answer I received from DaimlerChrysler On the LED Problem!! :!:

Dear John:

Thank you for contacting DaimlerChrysler regarding your '04 Crossfire.

At this time there is no "fix" for the concern you referenced. If, by
chance, you are driving with your headlights on for some reason you
might turn them off during the day to minimize this. If you don't drive with your lights on during the day, then we apologize for the difficulty in reading the display. Your comments will be forwarded to Product
Planning.

Thanks again for your email.

Let's all keep after DaimlerChrysler on this problem!!!!!!

What a lame answer. They obviously have not "seen" the issue in person. Anyone take it to the dealer and had them contact DC?

My dealer has seen it and they are aware of the problem and I believe someone has talked to DCX about it.

Actually, their response is bad in another way, the illumination of the head unit does not decrease when you turn the lights on, at least not noticeably.

It does decrease when the lights are on and you turn them down with the dash ****.
