Default Noise in dash, dash lights out, doors won't lock...

2006 Chrysler Crossfire Roadster... 2,000 miles
The other morning, I went out to go to work. Started the car to warm it up and defrost the windows. I turned the light switch on and the dash and console lights did not turn on. The outside lights are fine... I then noticed a humming/buzzing noise from behind the top left dash. I turned the switch off and the noise didn't stop. I turned the car off and the noise didn't stop. I turned the switch on and the outside lights are the only thing working... The clock display is messed up and there are two vertical black lines in the display next to the clock. I decided to go to work and check it later. I get to work and the fob doesn't work to lock the car. I get in the car and try the lock switch and the doors won't lock... Hmmmm... Noise is still there. I go in to the office and look out every once in a while to see if it is on fire yet... I go out at lunch and the noise is still there, car starts fine. I decided to take it in to the shop. They check it out and say the instrument cluster is at fault. It will be next week before they can get a part. That doesn't sound right... Seems like it would be some sort of control module... Anyone ever have something like this happen before?

Sorry to say, I've heard of a number of folks with bad instrument clusters. I have no specifics, however.

Do a search on "instrument cluster"?

The car's are purposly boobytrapped by the assembly line workers, Germans are famouse for doing sneaky stuff like this . MBZ employees never where fond of the whole Daimler Chysler purchase, thus they get thier revenge on us poor bastards who bought the cars.

I say the Germans can go F*CK themselves with this inferior **** they are trying to pass off. I will never look at a Mercedes benz vehicle with admiration again ,thier products just don't hold up, buy a American or Asian I say!

comparing the slk to the crossfire and you will see many of the slk's components are of higher quality, where as we get the cheap french components. lol

Here it is two weeks later... The dealer here keeps telling me the instrument cluster is on a backorder. March 9 is the projected date right now. Has me wondering. The will have had my car for well over a month by the time the part gets here. Where do these parts come from? Its funny, they told me yesterday to call and complain to Chrysler... When I called, I got someone from oversees... They outsource just like Dell...

They finally offered me a rental for 5 days until they can determine what to do... They had orginally asked me to come pick it up because it still drives... I don't get it. If the part is in existance, FedEx/UPS can get it here.

March 9... that's what they told me way back on Dec. 1. LAST YEAR!!!! I've been in a rental car since then! My cars been in the shop so long the license tags expired on it! Thank God I have the Chrysler extended warranty!

Instrument cluster (guessing about $600 + labor)
Chrysler extended warranty - $1200
Having to pay nada on a $3500 rental car bill - priceless!

It's no wonder Detroit car makers are hurting, they can't do math!
