I had to cut access panels so I could bond reinforcements behind where the steel/aluminum met at the front edge. Lots of time and a big pain to do. Here's the latest pics..............

I haven't had time to do much other than buy the fiberglassing supplies. Between going out of town for work, doing a custom paint job on my Polaris Razr, constant raining(roof leaking at my house) and the crank pulley on the 6 now deciding to nearly come apart.........I've had very little free time. I WILL get back on it and start the bodywork hopefully this week though. Here's some pics of my newly painted Razr to stare at for the time being.

MOPAR - or - BUST for real.
I was Looking again and seeing for the first time........

I have run across the stud failures ---bolts damnnit-- That is stretch failure, not torque thou related. THe bolts had an initial torque of X.X which is all fine, but if it is in a different rate of expansion material, the bolt is internally stretched till it shears in two.

At issue I had several harlan sharp roller rockers experience push rod bolt failures. The heavy bolt was screwed into aluminum rocker with a jab nut. THe expansion of the aluminum stretched the 3/8" bolt causing it and others to split. To limit the stretch the bolts tension must be limited to minimize the prestretch. Mixing different metals often has stress - warpage problems due to disimilar rates of expansion and contraction.

I would suggest loosening all the bolts, adding some Moly lube and retightning them to No more than minimum ( low range ) on the bolts capacity.

Just a bit from my own experiences, car over heated once and pow every thing started coming loose like on twilight zone........stretched out.

Very good food for thought. I'm having the pulley rebuilt by the maker and asked that the bolts be red lock tited so I won't ever have to worry about retorqing again. Hopefully there will be no more issues after that.

It was finally a nice day today so I got a chance to put the first coat of fiberglass on the hood!!! I'll try to grind it down and throw the final glass coat on today or tomorrow and then I just have to do the finish putty work to make everything smooth and straight. Then I can go back to finishing up the underside which still needs a bit of work to get it up to my standards.

Here's a shot of the little cowl induction it will provide..........I bonded a support in the middle so it doesn't flop around at 100+mph.

Shazam! That's starting to look mighty good. I like the way you did the open cowl in the back.

This is one of the few threads worth following. The economic recession and winter weather seems to have put a bit of a damper on the forum.

Keep up the good work.

Looks really nice, I like the cowl induction. The best view of any good hood is the one from the driver's seat

I made some good progress on the hood this week. I was slow at work so I brought it in and finished welding up the underside and threw the final coat of fiberglass(which isn't all sanded yet) on the hood. I also just got the vents in today and threw them on for a quick pic.

I'm "green bondo" with envy. How different is that stuff to work with compared with the pink stuff? Looking good!
