The battery that came in my Crossfire is the same, but it says maintenance free on the top. You should never remove the caps.

Do not do as you are told, they sell more batteries that way. Unscrew the caps and add water if required. If it has caps that unscrew use them, they are low maintenance batteries.
Help save the planet, save your battery for a little longer.

I nabbed an oddessy pc1200 at work (15 bucks ) and it fits perfectly via one of the spacers we use with our group 34's. Its 550 cca and PHCA of 1200 ca, for a 2 second hit. they are water free and can be mounted anyways. 7 3/4 long 6 1/2 tall (top of brass terminals) and 6" wide.

My stock battery, from jul 03, still is good and keeps a charge but that could go dead without notice

My original battery is still going strong, I took it to the Battery Shop and had it tested 3 Mths ago, and it tested OK.
I think part of the reason for this, is that even though it is a 2004, I bought it in 2006, and brand new, so it has only had 4 years running.
Another thing I don't do is operate the roof with the engine not running.

Mine has just started doing that on the Negative lead, going to get my battery changed today. Not worth the risk that this corrosion could create.

Confirmed I have now replaced my battery. It would appear that the existing battery was not the original. The one I replaced was a Varta (Mopar Cat No 48). The ground cable was corroded and although cleaned up 2 weeks ago, was as bad as ever today when I checked. I bought an "Everstart 48" from Wallmart ($89), which fitted very well. Unfortunately the existing Ground lead was corroded so much, I could not disconnect it from the old battery. I disconnected the ground cable at the other end and removed it with the old battery. BUT still no luck removing the cable. Searched the Auto Parts shops to get a new ground cable 9" long to replace original, no such luck, as the shortest I could get was 12" long and was much thicker than the original. Ended up cutting the original cable off and fitting a new Gold Plated post connection piece and using the existing cable. Prior to fitting the new battery, I took the opportunity to remove the battery tray, clean up the tray, and the area below the tray, to eliminate any corrosive crap that had fallen down there, but luckily no damage had been done. So all in all a good preventative maintenance project. Also, as I always did with battery posts when undertaking similar jobs while living in Britain, coated the battery posts with vaseline, which helps to prevent future corrosion and bad connections. Hopefully now safe in that area for another 3 - 5 years. Still got to check to see what has to be reset with the electronics etc., but got to leave myself something to do NEXT weekend.

Pep Boys has a Bosch 48-690B that's a perfect fit, NO spacers needed, proper vent tubes too.
$99.99. 3/96 Warranty

I have a 2004 and I'm still running the original battery. I have 42k on the car and don't plan on replacing it until the car won't start anymore.

Since the earlier entries here from 2009 regarding the Interstate MTP-91 and MTP-H6 battery choices, I see that they also now have an MTP-48-H6 battery that has 770 CCA instead of the 640 CCA of the MTP-H6. It has the same dimensions and the same cost (pricey) as the MTP-H6 so I don't know why it wouldn't be preferable for the Crossfire if you want an 85 month warranty.

I thought the same thing. Put a new one in now before you deal with all the issues that will arise from not doing it.

Agreed. I thought the same way as he did when I was 20. But we didn't have all the high tech electronics then that we do now. This qualifies as a case of penny wise pound foolish IMHO.

I considered replacing the battery before winter but our batteries are so expensive. If someone could recommend a good battery then I might consider replacing it.

$100.00 is not that expensive for the piece of mind that your car will start when you need it too.

If you think a battery for these cars is expensive then maybe you will see the price of a tow from the freeway literally a case of highway robbery.

That's why I pay a couple dollars extra on my insurance policy every 6 months (to cover towing). I got AAA as well.

My battery decided not to hold a full charge on my 04 in the spring of 08.
My car died at the end of my driveway, and I had to have it towed to the dealer from there, just 2 days before my 3 year, 36k warranty was to expire. So they paid for my new battery.
My car was built in Jan. of 04, so the battery was only a little over 4 years old.

The day it decides not to start anymore will probably be the most inopportune time for it to die...like on a date.
