Default ESP and TC

So here is my problem,

As you know when trying to launch or cars they bog down as soon as the rear wheels lose traction. So what you do is push the TC button to find that your car still bogs down meaning that there is still traction control even though you thought it was switched off.

So I did the searches like most of you and found that if you pull 2 fuses it switches esp and traction off.

Well I didnt like the inconvenience of having to pull fuses so i rigged a switch to the yaw sensor so i could switch off the ESP at will.

All works well when i flick the switch the ESP/BAS light comes on but if before I do that I push the traction button and the traction light comes on as soon as i switch off esp the traction light goes out.

So now i can do doughnuts and get the car sideways but as soon as i try to launch the car still bogs down.

Any suggestions???
Steve

Yaw is lateral (side to side) acceleration. Has nothing with longitudinal acceleration.

I'd imagine that fully disabling the TC would entail tricking the wheelspeed sensors somehow. Unfortunately, this would also affect your ABS system.

I spoke to Woody at the last UK meet and he has come up with a gadget that does fool the wheel speed sensors, i shall do this and report my findings.

I think wheel speed sensors would affect many other things as well; AT shift points, speedometer (maybe, usually comes out of AT tailshaft) braking, etc.

I disabled the ABS/ESP completely a while back and it worked great................for about 2 miles. Once the car picked up that it was "malfunctioning" it went int limp mode as I was trying to merge onto the freeway...........instant Geo Metro. Needless to say I just hit the stupid ESP button every time I get in the car and enjoy my 80% freedom from big brother.

Well ive done it!!!!!

I've toggle switched the hydraulic Unit(traction) so now i can either just switch off the esp or both the esp and traction control off completely.

tested it and its mad, a completely different car, from huge wheel spins to doghnuts.

I would never do burnouts and donuts outside the racetrack but when I am at the track I seem to have no problems at all with the traction control switch turned off, do a burnout then launching the car without traction control kicking in.

Sorry let me explain.

I have a 2004 ltd which doesnt have the no. 17 and 18 fuses that the later crossfires have.
What I have is a black box on the suspention turret just in front of the battery.
click the lid off this black box and you will find 3 large black wires bolted to 3 rather hefty fuses.
The middle wire is marked up as Hydraulic Unit(Traction) this is the one you need to cut and connect the toggle switch too.
before i did this i could make the wheels spin but the traction would kick in and bog down the motor even with the traction button pressed.
Now when I use my toggle switch i can spin the wheels right down the road!
The down side of this is that you also lose ABS BUT I WILL ONLY USE IT FOR LAUNCHING

Could our British friend finally found the cure to the traction control switch issue? I am certainly interested in this prospect. Please show all of us what you did~

this isnt a fuse that can get pulled. firstly you will need a socket to remove it, but ive cut the wire and connected it to a 2 pole toggle switch and located the switch in the cabin in the space between the ashtray and the lighter.

I'LL POST SOME PICTURES LATER TODAY

Ok here goes,

Done a video and will post it on youtube later.

This is the location of the black box, in front of the battery on the suspention turret.

click open the box to reveal the wires.

close up of the wiring diagram.

cut the center wire marked Hydraulic Unit(Traction) and feed new wire into cabin through fire wall.

Edit: Make sure you use either a 50 amp rated relay between the switch and the fuse or a 50 amp rated toggle switch.

As soon as ive uploaded the video i'll post the link

Here are the new toggle switches. The left is connected to the traction control as explained above, and the right is connected to the yaw sensor located just behind the gear shift under the center consol.

I wouldn't be surprised to find out that this will work on some Crossfires but not others.

I know in my car, I can pull the fuses and lay down 50+ feet of very expensive goodyear tire. This was done with my car when it was bone stock. (search youtube for "striping a dodge dealer". Sorry for not putting a direct link, but I'm at work and youtube is locked out! )

Other cars of the same year (2005) cannot do this, while some can. I'm pretty sure there was a software update implemented in the PCM sometime mid-production.

I can smoke the tires from a dead stop with no issues by just flipping the traction control switch. My car will spin the tires from 10, 20, 30, 40 MPH and will bog down from the traction control kicking in even when it is turned off. From a roll, you can punch it and it will nose dive once the rear tires begin to spin faster than the front ones. This is what I cant stand.

Makes sense. When the car isn't moving, it can't yaw.
