Mystery no start issue
Re: Mystery no start issue
Thanks GDC-SRT, Steven's Toys, and tighed1!
Boy you all respond quickly! I like this forum!
So now I asked my husband, "what is the definition of "is", oh, I mean "crank"? Hahaha.
All kidding aside,tighed1, I read your reply to him about cranking or not cranking. He said when he turns the key, he hears it try to start but it won't turn over. So I'm assuming that means we need the CPS replaced since he already re-soldered the 3 points on the RCM. Right?
Also, did the "check engine" light go off because he re-soldered the 3 points on the RCM?
(If my dad could only hear me now, talkin' car talk with the guys...)

The check engine light went out because you basically reset it when you disconnected the RCM. If you get the car running again and the problem is the CPS you just might get your CEL back.
Re: Mystery no start issue
Thanks for the reply. We were the opposite. My husband wanted to trade it in, but I said no way. I love my XFire. Looks like our problem may be the CPS though. We'll see...wish me luck.

She now loves her car again and I would recommend replacing the module instead of trying to fix the old one.
Best of luck with whatever you decide to do.
Once again - happy Crossfired owners!!

Hopefully I'll find one tomorrow so my husband can replace it and get me back on the road. Thanks for all your help. I'll let y'all know tomorrow evening if it worked.

Oh, & I learned how rude auto parts guys can be when a woman is asking about a part. Unbelievable!
A few pretty much let me know I couldn't possibly know what I was talking about and said to have my husband call.
Re: Mystery no start issue
Thanks pizzaguy, you're probably right. Although one guy really was being a jerk. I guess I wasn't expecting it because you all have been so nice.
I'm also happy to say I ordered the part from AutohausAZ after seeing the info posted (crankshaft position sensor page 3) by Valkryderguy for only $40.81. I paid for express mail to get it ASAP and still paid less than I would have at the NAPA supplier.
Once again, you guys are the greatest!
Quick question: Does anyone know where I can get a sun visor? The "hinge" or "spring" or whatever holds them up broke and I can't find another visor anywhere.

Contact CrossfireKat. She is parting out a XF. Didn't list the visors but they may be available.

Re: Mystery no start issue
Yea!! The CPS arrived today, but too cold this evening to work on it. My husband will work on it tomorrow morning and maybe I'll be driving it again by lunchtime.
Thanks for the info on the visor. I left a note with CrossfireKat to see if any visors are available. I also found a pair listed on eBay. I'm only 5"3" and even with the seat in the highest position, the sun blinds me without the visor (not that they're the greatest visors...definitely room for improvement, but they help). My husband is 6'7" and of course, never has to use the visors, which brings me to the one and only complaint I have about my XFire...I wish it had "memory seating".
I'll let y'all know tomorrow if we have success with the CPS replacement.

Re: Mystery no start issue
Well, green-ghost, it is a bit snug for him, but as long as the seat is as far back as possible and as low as it'll go, it's comfortable. Oh and he does have to tilt the seat slightly so his knees clear the steering column. He prefers driving my car any day over driving his truck.
Unfortunately, he had to put in a 15 hr day so he wasn't able to fix my car, but we're both off tomorrow. So, once again, we plan on replacing the part in the morning. I'll let y'all know how it goes.

Re: Mystery no start issue
Just a note of thanks to everyone here also. We replaced the CPS (after soldering the points on the RCM didn't fix the "no start issue") and the car is purring like it used to.
I would like to mention one thing to others that decide to replace the CPS if soldering the RCM doesn't fix the problem. Buy the E series star socket set. The E10 was recommended, but was too big. We bought the set, so we tried the E8 and it fit perfectly. After that, it was easy as pie to replace the part.
And for all you women out there that love their XFires, you can fix this yourself with the help of all these great guys here on this forum.

Re: Mystery no start issue
Thanks for the past invite. I thought I sent a post, but I don't see it. First chance I get to check out one of your gatherings I will. I have another wonderful past time besides my crossfire, and that's animal rescue. Needless to say, it is very time consuming, although very rewarding. I'll have to make sure someone can handle my little ones before I can plan time away. So far I've found it very difficult to find someone willing to care for 15 dogs and 10 cats, but I'm working on it.
In the meantime, has anyone had luck finding visors for 2005 crossfire, red exterior and light gray interior. My drivers visor hinge broke. Are there any specialized visors that can turn outward to block the sun?

Re: Mystery no start issue
Sorry to thread bump the graveyard, but
THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU!
Thank you for this thread as well as thanks to tighed1 for his DIY how to on the RCM.
I got hit my the mystery no start yesterday afternoon trying to leave for work and after using her more or less daily earlier in the week except for thursday and friday, she sat there as if to say "Its my day off."
With all the other little issues that have been going on, i gave quite a spew of unmentionables, locked it up and took the truck to work. I found the thread here while on break, read the while thing while nodding thinking, "yea, that sounds like it fits'
Get home this morning (still no start) and proceed to open up the RCM housing (which was the hardest part >.<) and WoW...looked like a first grader solder job... Took it inside, fixed the issue (like all 4 of the major points were bad) Plugged it back in and fired up like a charm! I so glad, that was $200+ i did not have atm!
So thank you again for all this combined and collected knowledge! It even helps a nimrod like me!
