I know this is a little late but I found Miller tools will rent DRBIII Tool with Crossfire card for $150 for three days.

Thanks, we did get to use a DRBIII but it was pretty useless compared to the STAR Diagnostic system.

Yes I used an engine from a 2002 CL500 but just about any engine will work. Some consideration should be given to what you want to end up with. The ML,S,CL and E class have the correct oil pan which is front sump and looks like the one on our V6. The oil pan and pick up can be changed if you find a great deal on a C or CLK engine. In Stock form The 55K has the most most power and the n/a 55 is next followed by the 500 and 43 which are about the same with the 430 having the least. If you plan forced induction in the future as I do, the 500 and 430 are best suited becuase of their 10:1 compression instead of 11:1 of te AMG motors. Some early AMG's had 10.5:1 Also if you plan forced unduction other than the farctory supercarger the an engine from a ML might be better because the engine cover would work better with plumbing the air intake.

Lantana, you should just start a sticky for considerations when swapping to a V8

Forgot to mention the SLR engine will also work for those needing over 600HP.

Not yet. We expected a replacement ECU today but it did not arrive. Should be tomorrow. I still need to find someone that has a decent video camara as well.

I am in need of "over 600hp" but will never consider putting a SLR engine in the car. Have you ever seen the price of that motor!!! I totalled out a SLR at work a couple years ago and the insurance company STILL wanted $250,000 for the complete(wrecked) car. In a perfect world I'd like to swap in a 2007+ SL55k motor since it starts off with 510hp(or 516......I can't remember) and can be easily modded to well over 600hp.

That is why I didn't mention the SLR engine at first but technically it will work. As far a 2007+ engine, it could be more of a challenge but it it used the Bosch ME 2.8 ECU it might work well. The ME 2.8 ECU was introduced when the three valve engines were introduced. IF you change to a different type of ECU, you might not be able to use the STAR system to code it and you could end up re-wiring a lot of stuff. you would want to look under a few hood before attempting this. However the approach I took would also make it very easy to put a SRT engine into a n/a car.

Good info to know.........then I'll just go back to my original plan of picking up a total loss E55(I want as little hassles as possible).

looks like the beginning of rat motors in the XF body....lol...this is kind of a twist of picking up an old camaro, mustang, whatever and putting the big block in her...but in the '70's, it was a lot easier. Looks like a trend is starting...I had forgotten about helping my neighbor put a small block chevy in his porsche...where there's a motorhead there's a way....anything is possible with enough will power and knowledge, and there is a lot of knowledge on this thread for sure...good luck to all on this mod...lantana has really started something here...

The August 1985 issue of Kit Car Illistrated featured a car I built and owned. It was a replica of a Prosche Speedster. What made the car special was that I built a reverse rotation Crazy flat six Corvair engine for it. It looked stock on the outside but when you take 9 inches out of a VW pan, add a plastic body and hang 300hp on the back you end up with a real terror. It was hard keeping the front wheels on the ground and the back wheels behind the front wheels. I sold it becuase I was sure I was going to die in it. I actually sold it to the uncle that helped on my current project. He sold it to a Dentist that wanted to give it to his son that had just turned 16. I was pretty upset that he would allow the car to go to an inexperienced driver. The car was as close to lethal as you can get.

So Lantana. What have you discovered about Torque Control? I'd love to firm up the shifts and not loose so much timing before the shifts. Can your "helpers" reprogram the TCU?

So who is going to be next to shoehorn in a V8? Anyone wanna step up the game?

09 Mercedes Benz C63 6.2L V8 AMG Engine Swap M156 W204:eBay Motors (item 360210406046 end time Dec-22-09 06:02:47 PST)

hahahaha. I would love to see this...

It's name would have to be SRT63 (and if you own a black car why not call it a SRT63 Black Series)

To correct you, AMG 63. I am looking for a 5.4L V8. Good enough for the SLR, good enough for me. I have located a 2002 CLK 55 AMG Engine pulling 342 hp just N/A with 66,000 miles for $2500.00. Will sell my old engine to get most of the money back. I plan to do most of the physical work my self and then find an expert in ECU programming. With a (twin) turbo it should get the hp over 500 which on these well-made cars will push it to 60 in the high 3's to low 4's and bring the top speed to well over 200 mph. This is enough to defeat any Ferrari or Lamborghini. Save for the 599, Enzo, Reventon, and LP's. But those are not far away.
