I totalled out a SLR at work a couple years ago and the insurance company STILL wanted $250,000 for the complete(wrecked) car. In a perfect world I'd like to swap in a 2007+ SL55k motor since it starts off with 510hp(or 516......I can't remember) and can be easily modded to well over 600hp.

The ME 2.8 ECU was introduced when the three valve engines were introduced. IF you change to a different type of ECU, you might not be able to use the STAR system to code it and you could end up re-wiring a lot of stuff. you would want to look under a few hood before attempting this. However the approach I took would also make it very easy to put a SRT engine into a n/a car.
Good info to know.........then I'll just go back to my original plan of picking up a total loss E55(I want as little hassles as possible).

looks like the beginning of rat motors in the XF body....lol...this is kind of a twist of picking up an old camaro, mustang, whatever and putting the big block in her...but in the '70's, it was a lot easier. Looks like a trend is starting...I had forgotten about helping my neighbor put a small block chevy in his porsche...where there's a motorhead there's a way....anything is possible with enough will power and knowledge, and there is a lot of knowledge on this thread for sure...good luck to all on this mod...lantana has really started something here...

So who is going to be next to shoehorn in a V8? Anyone wanna step up the game?
09 Mercedes Benz C63 6.2L V8 AMG Engine Swap M156 W204:eBay Motors (item 360210406046 end time Dec-22-09 06:02:47 PST)
hahahaha. I would love to see this...
It's name would have to be SRT63 (and if you own a black car why not call it a SRT63 Black Series)

To correct you, AMG 63. I am looking for a 5.4L V8. Good enough for the SLR, good enough for me. I have located a 2002 CLK 55 AMG Engine pulling 342 hp just N/A with 66,000 miles for $2500.00. Will sell my old engine to get most of the money back. I plan to do most of the physical work my self and then find an expert in ECU programming. With a (twin) turbo it should get the hp over 500 which on these well-made cars will push it to 60 in the high 3's to low 4's and bring the top speed to well over 200 mph. This is enough to defeat any Ferrari or Lamborghini. Save for the 599, Enzo, Reventon, and LP's. But those are not far away.
