Default Radar detector shopping

Ok, so I haven't been caught speeding yet, but lately I've found myself hitting triple digit speeds, and I know it's only a matter of time before the fuzz ***** catch me, so I'm in the market for a real good radar or laser detector/jammer has anyone out there have any opinions on this model or can recommend one? I've noticed that alot of Porsche and MBZ owners have this model in their cars.

They look pretty nice. I just got a new Escort 8500 x50 to replace my old 8500. That one has already done it's job several times... there is over a $500 difference - I 'm not sure how much better the other one could be to justify that much money...

I was just doing a little research on K band signals, and it turns out 2007 Mercedes have an infrared laser that operates on the same K band freq. so if your radar is going off towards your rear and you have a Benz behind you, he's probably on laser guided cruise control. Lol.

I will have to do a little comparison on the Escort. but dose Escort pay for your speeding tickets if the detector fails to operate like the K40 unit?

any jammer won't work, they all say they do, but there's no way it can effect their laser pick-up unless you send them a signal to mix their up. which i doubt its even available. but anyway. don't depend on detectors anyway. if your the first in a line of cars, or no one else is around, you will get busted. because it only works if you pick up the radar thats being shot at someone else and you slow down before he hits you, but if no one is around, the first time he shoots will be at you, and it will be too late.

Valentine One. I have heard nothing but good things about it. Plus I have never pulled anyone over that had one on. I guess it works well.

The K40 does send out a signal into the radar gun just when it detects a hit from Smokey. Also the K40 system is wireless so no chords in the way, it also has a cool wireless fob, I guess it's to turn it on otherwise it's voice activated too.

Agreed. Never speed alone. If your with buddies, set up a spotter.

I don't know anything about the Jammers, but I've read that all the 'reflector' paints and what nots are hoax's.

You are right, but I'd like to get a cheapo detector, just so I can take notes of where I find radar hits and Police hideouts, this way I know for future reference as to where I should watch my speedometer.

I use my 6th sense as my radar detector and so far I've never been pulled over. Best part is that it's free. I think they're a waste of money IMO, if you're speeding that much you're going to be spending much more than a couple hundred paying a ticket (i.e wrecking your car or your life).

Escort does not pay for tickets, but over the years it has saved me countless times (including LASER). The new Escort 9500 has some interesting new features (like a link to GPS), but the 8500 was good enough for me.

For those of you who say they don't work - sorry, I can't agree with that - they have worked for me time and time again! (Although I also trust my 6th sense, as well).

It's really all about how much you're willing to spend...

I have a Beltronics Vector 940 (radar/laser) for 4+ years and three cars, over 200k miles. No tickets. The secret is to brake on the first beep, even for false alarms. It could be radar bleeding around other cars ahead. Of course, I seldom travel more than 10-15 miles over the limit so I can bring it down to a reasonable speed rather quickly. My unit has probably saved me 10 tickets - hope this doesn't jinx me.

Laser is a different story - by the time your alarm goes off, it gotcha.

Valentine One has the best reputation. Stop by a Circuit City and look at the display of various models. Get hold of a Road & Track or similar mag and read their tests.

I'm a Valentine fan by far, but for my Crossfire I installed the Bel RX 75 +Pro. I wanted something hidden out of sight and installed permanently with the convertible. So far, outstanding results. I have the radar unit imbedded into the grill, the laser devices in front and back and the head unit above my mirror.

Bobs and Crossfireltd, pics.

It's all wired (following) via the existing (factory) cable runs. I used the space under the radio (pulled the console apart) to connect and power everything.
