Default Water pump going bad?

So it seems that my water pump is making some noise. 2006 N/A roadster (72,000 miles). Do these just get new bearings installed in them or is it best to just replace the whole pump? Does it need to be on a lift to replace it or it is a DIY project one can do at home? Anyone have a cost estimate for a quality shop to do it?
I've been reading that the part numbers are confusing for these pumps so if anyone has the correct part number that would be good also.

Not a hard job, couple of years back Chuk from Orlando changed one out in the parking lot at Fontana Lodge ( Tail of the Dragon )
1. disconnect negative battery cable
2. drain cooling system ( petcock driver side radiator bottom) catch it for re-use, or replace with 50/50 distilled water and Zerex G05.
3. remove fan assembly.
4. remove serpentine belt.
5. remove all bolts from water pump, place them in new pump in same position ( different length bolts are used )
6. remove old water pump.
7. swap all bolts from new pump into old pump.
8. clean up gasket area, install new pump with bolts in proper position.
10. reinstall serpentine belt.
11. reinstall fan assembly.
12, put the coolant back in.

If you have an air ratchet, this is only about a 1-2 hour job, lift not required or needed.

Thank you for this. Very helpful.

Bolts are ;many different lengths, remove and set them in the new pump on the ground. Remove the pump and swap bolts to old one, and reinsert as new pump is installed. They are screwed into Aluminum and DIFFERENT LENGTHS. You have been told, Dont ask me how I know. Woody

Do I detect an echo here ? Same thing I said in step 5 above :
5. remove all bolts from water pump, place them in new pump in same position ( different length bolts are used )
Enjoy !

LOL, YES my researching has read this helpful bit of wisdom several times. So I will gain from others misfortune.
I am having an issue though. I have been reading for several hours now about this and believe I have found a part number for my 06' N/A motor However when looking for a pump I get many different brands using that number as a reference. So which brands (of pumps) are better than others?
The part number I have is 1122001501

In all honestly, I have a SRT-6 and ive removed my blower like 6 times now. I swear the one time I had to change my water pump sucked more than removing the blower on my car multiple times. The reason it sucked was the 1500 hundred bolts of different sizes and length. Worst waterpump design ever!! Major PITA.

So I probably should have done it at the same time as the serpentine belt and tensioner?

I dont think so, I changed my belt, idler and tensioner back in 2014 in 1/2 hour. You can't do the water pump that easily, not at all.

Can anyone verify for me that this pump will work? One of the reviews is from someone who replaced it on a Crossfire.

My research shows that this company (GMB) also make the pumps for Gates

This fits the Limited but not the SRT according to the fitting chart on that site.

Thank you 180 for taking the time to look at it. Yes, I have a limited so it should work for me. I’ve been reading about this brand of pumps and they seem to be as good as oem so if it lasts another 70,000 miles I would be happy.

So I'm thinking this might be a good time to replace the thermostat as well since I'm sure it is original as well. I see they sell them alone or with a housing. I assume it makes sense to get one with the whole housing as they are not too expensive ($25 or so). I found a part number of 112 203 02 75. Is there more than one temp rating thermostat that I need to be aware of? The ones I see are listed as 87c (or 188 degrees).

I am watching this thread closely as my water pump pulley has a slight wobble in it (approx. 3 mm play when wiggling by hand) and with 132,000 km on the clock i think it is about to give up. On a side note, I wasn't aware that the SRT had a different water pump??

ANY up/down wiggle means replace it.
The SRT6 pump is different because it has an extra hose connection on the extended flat looking extension.
This is not a hard DIY, maybe 2 hours, and you might as well do a coolant flush and replace while you are at it.
50/50 distilled water with Zerex G05 or Mercedes coolant.

I’m planning on replacing the coolant as well but can anyone tell me if the original antifreeze used was green? I know the Zerex G-05 is yellow but was it around in 2006? I’m just trying to figure out if this car still has the original antifreeze in it or has it been replaced. My car currently has green antifreeze in it. Was it yellow from the factory?

The original coolant was blue, the Zerex is yellow, a small amount of the original trapped in the system will turn the mixture green, mine did and others had the same result.

Tom, I not a mechanic by any means but am willing to assist you if I am available when you are ready, just send me a text. I've never done it on a Crossfire before and it would add to my knowledge.

Larry, sure....I'll give you a shout when I'm ready. My garage is not heated and I don't want to do it when it real cold out so right now I haven't decided if I want to try to do it now or wait until spring. I'm sure that once warmer spring weather gets here I'm going to want to drive it so I would really like to have this done by then. I'll get my parts ordered then maybe I'll find a decent weekend that isn't too cold. The more I look at this I really don't expect it to be that big of a job.
