New personal best today!!!
New personal best today!!!
Went racing in Steele Alabama with Steve (32krazy!) today. Weather wasn't the best, it was near a record high and was rather balmy, 10 mph wind and storms popping up all around. It was 83° at race time
My first run, with a roll-in from 1,000 rpm launch was as follows:
R/T = .429
60' = 1.880
330' = n/a (timer was broken on first run)
1/8 mile = 8.039 @ 89.12
1/4 mile = 12.445 @ 111.59
Second run, I tried a 1400/1500 rpm (50% throttle launch with gradual roll-in to WOT)... and ran my best:
R/T = .340
60' = 1.825
330' = 5.181
1/8 mile = 7.953 @ 88.64
1/4 mile = 12.351 @ 111.91
Mods are in my sig, and I ran on street tires (BFG 275's) with my Mandrus wheels. The wheel/tire combo in the rear weighs-in at a staggering 56 pounds (29# wheel, 27# tire). Race weight was ~3,600 pounds (3,300 lb car, 215 lb driver, half tank of gas) and was on pump gas (93).
Best of all, I observed 24mpg on the trip, 600 miles round-trip averaging 80mph on the highway and that included my three runs.
My third run was horrid, I got ballsy and tried a 2,000 RPM launch (stoopid) and smoked the tires immediately. I had a 2.4 60' time on that run. Final time was 25.039 @ 43.86. Booyah.

By the way, those are some nice 60 foots for stockers.

The cooling mods I may take you up on. I'm no expert, but it appears (to me) the MPH was a bit low on the 12.3 run. I always thought a 12.3 would put me in the 114-115 range. I just chalked it up to heat, but I'm willing to be educated on that.
The car feels great, it is a fast (but low-drama) setup that behaved well off the line, even on street tires. Only when I was a clown did the car say LOLOLOLOLOLOL-NO

im not sure which was funnier john's comedy watching the track crew wail on a broken machine or wacthing him dance and grin when he got the first 12.4! he was sure a 12.7 was all he could do. thanx to my relaying the tips grip gave me at a 1/8 mile we ran on streets he was able to launch the car and we had a neck and neck race. when my tcu puked he was long gone!! the car is fast and predictable. actually until i layed down a 12.2 solo pass he had the fastest street car at the track by a solid 1/2 second!

Your MPH reflects the power you are making. It will generally be higher if you loose traction on launch, compared to a run when you hook.
I ran a 12.3's at 111mph (if memory serves) with my 181, but my MPH was inhibited by running lean. Once I corrected the issue I ran a 12.3 at 116. Obviously both days I was running street tires.
Once you up the boost you'll likely smoke the tires (2.0-2.1 60') and run another 12.3, but the MPH will be much higher (114-117) due to the higher power and spinning. If at that point you install DR's/Slicks, your ET will be lowered by 2-3 tenths, which will in turn lower your ET by the same and result in high 11's. This is based on my experience with racing and the Crossfire in particular.
Do you still have the SRT seats?

Boy, did I undersell the car!
And yes, I have the SRT seats.

No, the funniest thing was when we were joking about Alabama natives using 20# sledgehammers to fix everything. Steve and I contemplated offering them a hand in installing the axle on the rubber-laying machine thingy. Of course, our assistance would have been limited to a metric set of wrenches. Positive that they would be confused, I then spouted this little gem (in my best country voice) :
"Millimeter? What the hell is that? One of dem little bugs with lots of legs?"
Steve **** bricks, hardest we laughed all day.

I do have some cooling mods planned, currently I'm running the un-separated, factory heat exchanger. Can't be helping things. Horsepower mods are staying pretty close to where they're at... All of them are safe mods that great good power without much wear and tear.

I honestly don't plan on doing much more in the manner of focusing on 1/4 mile times... The times I'm pulling now are respectable, even for true fans of the 1320. As mentioned earlier, I might look at some cooling mods, and the headers will eventually be installed once they're finished. I will also be removing the two rear cats and the resonator, and installing an X-to-Y pipe to the OEM muffler. But I'm doing the latter mod more for tone purposes, and it'll knock off some useless weight. If I gain 5-10 HP, so be it
The car surprised me at how well-behaved it was off the line. As long as you keep the launch revs below 1,500 RPM, it's very predictable.
Next focus is going to be aimed towards braking and suspension. If you can take a car that runs repeatable low 12's, and compliment that with a chassis that will allow some true fun in the bends, it will be a fantastic combo. I don't want to increase the power in sole pursuit of 11's, and ruin the predictability/balance of the car in all other types of driving.
Thanks again for the kind words.
