Default Trailer Hitch Installed

I figured the racing group would be the most interested in how this turned out. It's unpainted until the rain stops but that actually makes it easier for you to see.

nice and simple, I like it.

Did you build that yourself?

I used a Mercedes SLK hitch to start with and worked it out from there. If I were going to do it again, I would knocked it up out of cardboard and have a machine shop / welder make the pieces. The biggest thing to remember is that the angles for the vertical mounting plates are opposite for the two sides. It is a very simple design and install.

Something to think about if the wife and I ever start touring around. Next you need to come up with a custom trailer that fits the car like the Prowler does. Great job.

Are you using a ball right on the horizontal bracket? Or do you plan to weld a 1 1/4" receiver on it? Just curious.

It's drilled for a ball. I will install a 1 7/8" or 2" ball based on what ever trailer I get. I figure I am way over engineered, but it's safer that way.

I was figuring with a welded receiver, you could adjust height for your application. With the ball, you forced to that one level height.

If the trailer I get doesn't ride correctly at the hight I have the ball than I will change the receiver. I only plan on ever using the hitch for a tire trailer, so for me the final product will only need to support one application.

Would like to see the final outcome. I have been looking for a trailer to put the xfire on so I can bring 3 people to the meet. But I will probably need to get a bigger horse to pull it, and I can't afford that. Not gonna be able to make it 5/3. I don't live too far from MIR either.

Are there any drawings for this? I may just decide to do this, and pull one of these.

so each one of those receivers is a SLK hitch (you had to get 2?)

Have you hooked it up to anything yet?

I would not recommend this hitch for a trailer to put people in, I think that is against the law.

I did use 2 SLK hitches to start with, but they are nothing like what they started out as. It would be cheaper and faster just to measure mine and have your hitches made up. I would be happy to let someone with the technical ability measure and do up a set of prints as long as the result would be free to everyone else.

I'm still looking for a trailer, but I have two times the load capability of an SLK and the hitches are mounted the same way a SLK hitch is installed. My intent is to hall a small, less then 600 lb total weight trailer to support tires and tools for a day at the track.

Thanks

Good news and bad news. The good news is that I purchased my trailer, the bad news is that I will be driving to pick it up next weekend so I will not make it to MIR. Heres a link to the type of trailer I purchased, I got the 5' long version of one like this. Supports 500lbs so my tires and tools should be no issue. Very low tounge weight.

Are you gonna be able to fit 4 tires in/on that?

How about electrical hookups?

Looks cute though

Without the hitch on it almost looks like a quad exhaust!

Yes, the four tires fit. 4" of side clearence so not much shifting and no need for tie downs. The electrical is a standard 4 wire, easy to do. Mine is wired and ready to go.

Hadn't thought about a quad exhaust look, maybe some extra tips fitted over the hitches. Worth thinking about.

maybe you may want to try this,,, get a square receiver tube, drill a hole in it insert a headless bolt ,,weld it,, now you can install it on top of the bar where you were going to put the ball or you could put it under the bar where the ball goes,,, you can drill two small holes one on each side, just put bolt therogh bar and tigjten nut to make it ridgid, so it does not swivel,,
