Legroom in a Honda S2000
Re: Legroom in a Honda S2000
Padgett, wouldn't you be more concerned with how far the seat reclines?
I checked out the S2000 when they came out because I've been a "Honda" guy ever since the CRX came out in 84. Even though the styling really didn't excite me that much, I liked everything I read about em. But when I got around to trying one on for size, I just couldn't get comfortable. I'm 6'2" and I weigh 200lbs.
I would say check it out and I bet you'll find the sweetspot. Good luck.

Re: Legroom in a Honda S2000
You are correct, I need a seat be able to go back far enough while the back is reclined at 35-40 degrees. This was the problem I had with the Crossfire: reclined it would not go back far enough to stretch out even though am only 5'10". So I carved a big hunk out of the bulkhead and now it goes back far enough (just).
Not just preference: if I can't take most of the weight of my back on my shoulders it gets painful quickly. Lying down I can drive for hours.
Will say I never had to mod a car this much before.
ps also had to remove the dead pedal so my left leg wasn't cramped & raise the seat to compensate for the wheel that does not tilt (is all the way in)
So guess I'll find out on Thursday whether I fit the S2000. At least it doesn't seem to have a fixed tonneau cover.

Should be a pretty long thread fron 2013 about what was done but first you need to understand that Merc never made a coupe version of the SLK320 which is the basis for the Crossfire, it was a retractable hardtop and had a hard tonneau cover that raised to lower the top. The bulkhead behind the seats is to locate and support the tonneau.
Second the bulkhead is in two sections, a lower section to contain the gas tank and an upper 6" section that is not structural or even functional in a coup (does not even reach all of the way across.
Third, with the seat reclined as I like it the contact is between the seat back and the top of the bulkhead.
So what I did was to remove the wide plastic piece from the top of the bulkhead and carve about 4" out from the top 6" high section of the bulkhead behind the driver's seat. Now the seat goes back far enough for me.
Picture shows just how much an be removed, I just cut out the top section behind the driver's seat. Was enough for me.

Re: Legroom in a Honda S2000
Well the seat was comfortable enough - almost but guess I am just used to cars that have some torque, had a nicer 1st gear than the Crossie but did not like under 10mph at all. Also seat has no height ajustment nor steering wheel tilt.
Also with less than 14k and garage kept it belongs in a collection and not for someone who might want to do distance driving.
Think my next car will still be an American retractible.
