Default 300SL (Gullwing) Panamericana replica

Press reports label this car as a "tickler" ... and the interpretation looks a little too Miata-ish for my tastes ... but I do like the retro AMG 17 x 8 wheels with the polished lip. If they can be found in larger sizes they might make a nice alternative wheel for the Crossfire. The "schmeer" of paint behind the headlights? Makes me think they couldn't afford a full race stripe job

Me likee!! The paint looks like a Matte. Do they have Matte White paint? I know they have matte black.

I normally like unusual cars, but I think there are too many things going on here. For instance the pieces above the wheels looks like they are trying for one style, yet the vents behind the fronts look more sporty and similar to a stingray I've seen. Plus the front in looks too plain and very miata-ish.

Even though it is a replica, I think the original 55' model looked better.

Hmmm........ I don't know. Looking at an original from the same angle it looks like all they did was take off all the chrome, including on the side vents. The "eyebrows" over the wheel arches and the side vents themselves really aren't all that different. Of course, the Miata-esque nose is simply the result of deleting the bumpers, grille pieces, etc. Otherwise the shapes of all the openings are pretty spot on.

Overall though, no argument from me that the original is the better looking car. It's hard to improve on perfection, and this is one of the most beautiful and iconic sports cars of all time.

When you compare the replica to photos of a model of the "actual" Gullwing Panamerica, I think I prefer the way the replica looks.
Legacy Motors - Mercedes-Benz 300SL #4 - Panamericana - Review
But the original "Street version" of the 300 SL Gullwing is PERFECT.
