Re: Crossfires Across America - Rocky Mountain Edition
Schedule of Events and other information:
Rocky Mountain National Park
If you plan on going through Rocky Mountain National Park on Wednesday, there is a $20 entrance fee per car. If you have a National Parks Pass, then you can get in for free.
Mount Evans
If you plan on going on the Mt Evans run on Wednesday, there is a $10 fee to get onto the highway. This is not a national park and a National Parks Pass will not get you in.
For Sunday
As most of you will arrive at the hotel on Sunday afternoon/evening, we will have a drivers meeting at the hotel to discuss routes and other logistics. The meeting will happen at 8:00 PM.
For Monday
As many of you are coming from low altitude locations, it may be better to stay out of the mountains on Monday in order for you to adjust to the higher altitudes and avoid altitude sickness. With that, we will have two separate groups for sightseeing.
Colorado Springs - Tour the Air Force Academy, Garden of the Gods, optionally the Cliff Dwellings in Manitou Springs, and a stop in Old Colorado City. If you desire to visit other places in Colorado Springs, you can certainly do that. RJ will be your tour guide.
Golden/Central City - This will be a light day of driving with some higher altitude driving. We will go through Central City/Blackhawk and come back through Golden Gate Canyon State Park (free to drive through) on our way back to Golden to visit the Coors Brewery.
Dinner for both routes are open on Monday evening. There are plenty of places to eat around the hotel.
For Tuesday
We will have two available routes to choose from:
Bishop Castle/Canon City - Drive to the Garden of the Gods, stop for lunch in Penrose (a nice little cafe), drive to Bishop Castle, drive to the Canon City, and back to Colorado Springs for the Flying W Ranch dinner.
Cripple Creek/South Park - Drive to the Garden of the Gods, drive up to Victor/Cripple Creek (have lunch), visit Wilkerson Pass (see South Park) and back to Colorado Springs for dinner at the Flying W Ranch.
For Wednesday
We will have three routes to choose from:
Rocky Mountain National Park - A longer drive with GREAT scenery.
Mt Evans and Tiny Town - Drive on the highest paved route in the United States
Denver/Dillon/Loveland Pass/Georgetown Loop - Tour the Continental Divide and ride on an old steam train in Georgetown.
For Thursday
It's open route day. We can repeat some of the same routes and I have a few other routes that would be great as well. Dinner at BJ's in Colorado Springs.
