Crossfires Across America - Rocky Mountain Edition
Re: Crossfires Across America - Rocky Mountain Edition
I believe that the wife and I are in either way. We are talking about continuing on to the Pacific Coast after CAA and back around a northern route to get in as many states as possible. She has an Uncle in Southern California we will not have seen in 4 years by then. That trip will put about 6,000 miles on the Crossfire in a 3 week period or so. It might not pan out though it is kind of early yet.

Guess you have to weigh whether to do a weekend so the locals will go and not have to use vacation, or the Tue-Wed-Thu for the distance runners so that they only have to take one week of vacation. Like John stated, there are a lot of events to chose from and I was going to give up Carlisle for Colorado.....but not if I have to use two weeks to do it.

Week days, you have fewer Wenabagos at the activity sites and pulloffs.
That said, some will like the week end schedules and make it work.
I'm there for either as we will take off Thursday to arrive Saturday (Late Friday nite) and get started having a whale of a good time. Our plans are to continue north to Yellowstone and spend time in the great North West.
And, on the chance they will still accept US money in Canada next summer, maybe some time there.
One Crossie in all that travel, I will need a fat Credit card.

franc,
we will take your money in canada. it is in quebec that they do not take foreign money....especially canadian dollars ( a little political humour lol).
did cathy share the stuff that 180 and i gave her from the dragon.
we will also be there next summer..... can't wait. it makes no difference to us whether it is a weekend or week day for the events. get us a date asap organizing committee.....so plans can be made for activities before and after. it sounds like many people will be making an extended vacation out of this gtg 2011. can't wait!!! see everybody there.

Re: Crossfires Across America - Rocky Mountain Edition
Mid week works the best for me.
Then only 1 full single M-F week off work is needed.
Don't even know where I will be employed next summer so.........
Total Travel Estimate (one way) 14 hours 18 minutes / 968 miles
Sooner the date is set the better so planning can begin.

Re: Crossfires Across America - Rocky Mountain Edition
We will be there, one way or the other. But the middle of the week, as CAA was, would work better for us also. Please let us know so that we can get vacation times planned. Not so hard for me, but the wife's work requires at least a 6 months notice.
Thanks for setting this up for the rest of us, it was so cool when the pack, at CAA, got to tell the GCG people how much we all enjoyed the week. Gave them a standing ovation, brought chills to my skin!

[quote=Franc Rauscher]I'll pass on Quebec then. At least until the French admit they no longer rule the world.

Re: Crossfires Across America - Rocky Mountain Edition
Sorry for the slow response here. I'm in the UK this week for work. I was thinking of a mixed amount of days:
Saturday & Sunday - At least one down day to visit areas on your own, see a car show, or just take it easy.
Monday through Wednesday - During the week some of the more "touristy" areas should not be as busy. There are several drives that I have in mind with breathtaking views that would be better during the week especially for parking (Mount Evans comes to mind).

Re: Crossfires Across America - Rocky Mountain Edition
The car will run fine. There will be obvious power loss as you go higher in altitude, but on that road to Mt Evans, you won't be going fast!
Re: Crossfires Across America - Rocky Mountain Edition
Did that road as a kid in the back seat of an Olds 88. All I could see over the hood was blue sky!
My Mother kept saying how pretty the wall was, couldn't look the other way. Would be cool to drive that road again as an adult, with my XFire.

Ok folks. A little update. We will have the event based in either Colorado Springs or Denver. We are finalizing the hotel and should have that information soon. Mark your calendars for July 22-27. I have come up some cool routes if we pick Denver which you can view here:
