Default New owner, need a second key - help please!

Hello all!
I just purchased a 2005 Roadster last weekend. It only has one key. Have been searching high and low for a second key but have learned that they are not currently being manufactured (since 10/19) and I suspect that is a nice way of saying "discontinued".

I have called Chrysler and Mercedes -multiple dealers - who all say no luck getting one or anything else to work. Called several locksmiths, but found only 2 who can make a key but no fob for $150-$500. One said he thinks the key is based from a Sprinter, and he's pretty sure he can make that work. What do you think?

I found a site that sells KR 55 remotes with uncut blades. The fobs are used, and the site says the blades can be cut and programmed by a dealer or locksmith to work for my Crossfire.

https://www.keylessremotewarehouse.c...4po_c_p813.htm

Don't know what to do, or who to trust, except you folks. What do you believe is the best way to get a key? With only one key, I'm extremely nervous - if it gets lost I'm screwed.

Thanks!

No other locksmith has been able to to anything more than cut a key - which will turn the lock cylinder, but won't start the engine because the locksmiths have no way of programming an RFID chip for the key.

Again, I don't think they can program an RFID chip without access to the MB/Chrysler database.

Go back in time to when keys were available. Keep in mind that there are a handful (I know of two) cars sitting because the owners lost their key and can't get a new one. One car has been sitting almost a year now.

You can try SOS diagnostics -there is a thread here by them.

That's not right our immobilizer has nothing to do with that from a Sprinter.

That's also not right. You can extract the needed information out of the skreem. But that is not only connect it to o reader, that's more complex so there are only a few who can do that.

SOS sprang to mind immediately as they posted on here very recently. At the moment they appear to be the only people able to solve the key problem, they need a working key or the SKREEM module to make a working fob. The working key looks to be the best option as they could then copy the key itself.
These people who say they are pretty sure of something but then fail are very sure to keep up or money.

I have ordered one from RemotesandKeys.com
it is having to be made and shipped from Mercedes in Germany.

Eric Sep 15, 13:09 Hello,As of a few weeks ago, the Chrysler Germany Parts Manager has assured us all orders will be filled and shipped shortly. This is by far the most positive information we have received from Chrysler. As of this week, we have been told a package has been sent via ocean freight (lithium batteries) to our Chrysler partner. Based on past experience, most sea-going vessels take 3-6 weeks depending on other ports visited.Michael Jinks Sep 15, 11:42 I need an update on this key Get Outlook for Android<https://aka.ms/AAb9ysg>________________________________From: Michael Jinks <michael@jinxonline.com>Sent: Tuesday, April 12, 2022 1:41:40 PMTo: RemotesAndKeys Support <help@remotesandkeys.com>Subject: Re: [#3792] Re: Re: Crossfire Key Update Thank you Get Outlook for Android<https://aka.ms/AAb9ysg>________________________________From: RemotesAndKeys Support <help@remotesandkeys.com>Sent: Tuesday, April 12, 2022 8:35:06 AMTo: Michael Jinks <michael@jinxonline.com>Subject: [#3792] Re: Re: Crossfire Key UpdateMichael Jinks Apr 12, 18:41 Thank you Get Outlook for Android<https://aka.ms/AAb9ysg>________________________________From: RemotesAndKeys Support <help@remotesandkeys.com>Sent: Tuesday, April 12, 2022 8:35:06 AMTo: Michael Jinks <michael@jinxonline.com>Subject: [#3792] Re: Re: Crossfire Key UpdateEric Apr 12, 13:35 I assure you, we are doing everything we can. Ugh, no one is going to read that messed up post.

ANyway, you paid WAY too much. Josh at the MSS would have saved you a lot of money.

What we need is the names of the key providers and their price for a basic key and fob.
That way we can see what’s what.
NeedsWings costs. $324.95 https://www.needswings.com/crossfire-replacement-key
SOS costs $? S.O.S. Diagnostics - Automotive Programming and Diagnostics
Josh costs $250 (?) https://themercedesswapshop.com/
darknezz19, $200 for fob, $100 for key. New supplier with no references as yet.
Anyone else?

Do NOT buy from Chrysler
I am getting bored with this question week after week. A little competition between suppliers is good.
Searching for answers for this question is very difficult, as there are so many to scan through.

When I got mine, Josh was charging $250.00. I don't know if it has changed.

I just received a key from NeedsWings and had my original key upgraded with a new fob. Quick turnaround and so much cheaper than Chrysler ( though I understand they don't have them available anymore. Try them out.
