New owner 160,000 miles
Have always wanted one, since 2004, just bought an '05 for $4500, but with 160,000 miles on it. Am I crazy? lol Exterior and interior are damn near pristine. No problems other than with they key, that I hear is a common problem. Again though, am I crazy for the high miles?
Re: New owner 160,000 miles
Welcome! you are in the right place for anything related to your Crossfire. You will find lots of good information here.
As for the mileage, there are several documented here in various threads with as many or more miles than yours, hopefully that will not be an issue for a long time and many more miles to come.
Repair wise, most of the common issues are not that bad from a cost standpoint if you are willing and able to do the repair yourself, or have someone who can help out in that area, and stay away from the dealership. Parts can be costly, but many can be sourced online with Mercedes equivalents at a fraction of the cost of the Chrysler dealership. A good local independent shop that specializes in Mercedes vehicles can be a great asset for the repairs you do not wish to attempt yourself.
post a few specifics on what exactly is going on with the key and I'm sure someone will point you in the right direction to get that sorted out.
Enjoy your Crossfire!

Re: New owner 160,000 miles
When I bought the car, the dealer said that I needed to go to a Mercedes dealership to have a new key made because it was "too thin". He seemed to know just how to get get it to turn, but it takes me a long time so I've been leaving it in the ignition. So long as I don't take it out, it turns and starts everytime.
I did a little research and found that this is somewhat common, and that it may have to do with the steering wheel lock despite the dealer assuring me I just need a new key.

You could get the new key, and if it works, then get a replacement metal blade only for your existing. If it also acts up, then do the sticky key fix.
Also, please post pictures, I am interesting in how well these hold up after that many miles.
Re: New owner 160,000 miles
You are probably right, but if you only have 1 key, you should have a spare, there is a contact here that can get them to you brand new, all setup with the transponder and pre-cut based on your VIN. About $155.80 shipped. I just got mine last week, and it worked perfect.

Re: New owner 160,000 miles
A friend Ann, not a forum member, brought her 160,000 mile 2004 coupe by last weekend due to rough idle.
I changed the plugs ( they were original and looked fine ), found a broken vacuum line that was really causing the problem.
The rear camber is still way out, I ordered links for her so she can get it aligned.

Re: New owner 160,000 miles
Welcome to the forum! I also have a somewhat high mileage coupe (135k and growing daily) and mine runs good. A few replacements have been made with a few more coming. But other than that, it has been a dream to own. I get looks from people everywhere I go, and im glad I stumbled upon such a good community of people. You don't see Camaro or Mustang forums that are this tight knit. I'm taking a three hour road trip tomorrow to a guy that I've never met before so he can teach me how to do some of the stuff on the car. I wouldn't do that if he didn't have a good reputation on here. You have joined an elite crew of car owners. Enjoy! And just a little FYI tip, before you create a new thread asking for help, do some searching on the forum with the Google search option on. You will most likely find something to solve your problem or at least get you started on the right path. Forum is ten plus years old so it has an abundance of info available.

No, you are not crazy. The running gear, in fact every part, of this car is Daimler Benz. I have driven three Benz's to 400K. I plan to drive both of my Crossies at least that far.
With the exception of Body panels, there is no shortage of MB parts and maintenance is a simple chore.
Oil filters, tires battery Fluids. Keep them topped off and fresh.
And if issues arise, post them here. SOMEBODY will have solutions. This forum is the best ap you can have on your new toy.
Welcome to the Forum.
Enjoy the permagrin.
