Blower and seat heater issues
Blower and seat heater issues
I have a 2005 Limited coupe and have had it for 6 years or so and 150,000 miles, drive it year round. I have been having some periodic issues with the blower motor just cutting out and not operating. There doesn't seem to be a consistent cause, timing, etc.. Now I am also getting a squeal from it at various speeds. Do I need to replace the blower and resistor or is there some other explanation? I am also experiencing issues with my seat heaters sometimes not operating, the lights on the switch don't stay lit and don't heat. Some days they work fine. Maybe it's just tired of this Wisconsin winter that doesn't seem to want to end.
Thanks in advance for your thoughts.

You finally decide to talk to us after all of this time owning your XF!
When you say "blower" motor. Are you referring to the climate control (AC/Heater) or engine cooling?
In my SRT coupe the heater blower seems to have a mind of its own sometimes. A good whack on the passenger side of the center console and it settles down.
Sounds like it's your car's turn to have the heated seats go out. Pretty common issue.
Do some searches on both topics and you will find more than enough info to get ya going in the right direction.

Re: Blower and seat heater issues
I guess the main problem is to find out what is wrong with the fan system, the fan motor, the control pack attached to the motor or the speed control on the dash. With the noise I would look at the motor first and work my way through the items one by one. Hopefully it's the motor or it may have some debris in the fan causing the noise. The bearings may be shot.
