I'm pretty sure your're wrong about the aluminium "Buick" V8 Dave, and it was a "Nail Head" when they sold it to British Leland.

Correct, the GT6 was a Spitfire, just testing 8*) (and the back of a GT6 looks a lot like...)
Old Yeller ('59 ish) did have a "nailhead" but the other was the aluminum Buick designed 215 cid BOP engine, that was sold off in '64 when the cubic inch race got going.
Went to Holden and I had thought that Repco modified the Buick block for the F1 engine though now it looks like they used the Oldsmobile version that was made stronger to support the turbo version (215hp/215cid)
Then went to Rover and eventually British Leyland where it appeared in just about every chassis imaginable from the MG to the TR8 (shape of things....) to the Morgan +8.
