Newbie in Orlando
Newbie in Orlando
Newbie in Orlando (where rust must be imported). NACO as yet but interested in a N/A Crossfire Roadster with manual trans in a light color. Used to be a GM person but Pentastar Jeep changed that. Have always preferred a good six, was infested with Jags in yout but got cured so now can tolerate a car without an oil pressure gauge.
Also like two seaters, had Fieros, and for the last decade have had Reattae but am ready for something interesting from this millennia with at least an American name even if made in Germany. Never had a F*rd and T'bird syling does not sit well for me, have had enough Corvettes for one lifetime so ready for something different with OBD-II.
Spent five years in Michigan attending GMI and like being able to remove an exhaust manifold without breaking bolts. Have sold several cars on shots underneath of zero rust so you understand my feelings there.
When I focus on a car, it is usually for decades so prefer to modify to run cool, have been know to reprogram computers to do so. Also prefer to know everything possible beforehand. Having the service manual online is a big plus for me, spent A Lot for the FSM for my Heep only to find it was only readable with IE 10. No MAC, no iOS, no Android.
Two things concern me about the Crossfire:
1) no tilt wheel
2) no aux input (have a number of FM transmitters though).
Am deep into Windows tablets for Automotive use (have over 10 GB of music albums & big scream Sat Nav) and OBD-II.
So would appreciate knowing what to look for in a low mileage roadster and what solutions have been found for the lack of an aux input or Uconnect for my cell phone.
Thank you,
Padgett

Re: Newbie in Orlando
First off, welcome to the forum! If you do decide to purchase a Crossfire, there is an active Crossfire group in Florida and I recommend hooking up with them for drives, events, etc.
Answers/opinions on your concerns:
1) I guess I have never had an issue after nearly six years of owning Crossfires. You should get used to it in no time.
2) Keep in the mind that the stock head unit was probably designed long before auxiliary ports were a standard thing with factory car radios. I have never liked the stock unit and have replaced it with each of the Crossfires I have owned. Get a decent $100-$150 unit with an auxiliary port and Bluetooth.
I'm big into Windows/Zune and Android devices. There are some Bluetooth OBDII adapters that you can get on eBay fairly cheaply. There is an app for Android (Torque/Torque Pro) that can read all the sensors an transmit the results to your Android device. I don't know if there is a Windows App available that will read Bluetooth ODBII adapters as of yet.

Re: Newbie in Orlando
a) I rarely use eBay, mostly Amazon
b) I have several Bluetooth OBD-II adapters, $20-$25 from Amazon
c) Android I agree, nothing for $5 beats Torque Pro
d) For Windows I use the same dongles with TouchScan (OBZwiz comes with a USB dongle but does not do BT).
e) for the professional AutoEnginuity is best but pricy.
For more than you ever wanted to know see here.
Is the a FAQ on what to look for when buying a Crossfire ?
Has anyone ever used the CD changer input for an Aux Input ?
YWTK.

Re: Newbie in Orlando
using the Google search feature in the top of the page, type in "what to look for"
2 different threads are found :
https://www.crossfireforum.org/forum...crossfire.html
and
https://www.crossfireforum.org/forum...g-used-cf.html
( IMHO, junk the OEM head unit and go aftermarket. If you look at all the Marine models, some almost match up with the silver )
