I took some more picture when I was outside waxing it today, they should give you a better idea of the "hard" adhesive that still resides, also a pic of the door trim that I havent taken the sticker off yet, im afraid of what ill find underneath. And Hawk, its all good bud, just irks me that someone would let this happen to such a gorgeous vehicle. I think I got a great deal on the car, I guess everything cant be perfect!

Anyone have experience with these guys or this product? This is another overlay right? Its one of the classier ones ive seen, im not into the wild stuff or the carbon fiber look, see way too much of it.

Those areas on the dash and around the door handle do not look like normal overlay adhesive. To me, it looks like someone used super glue or gorilla glue.

Here is the link - https://www.crossfireforum.org/forum...dy-pieces.html. It is actually a wet dip process if I remember correctly. This might be a good option for you.

SRT6 and I have been messaging and am hoping to hook up with him this week, it sure is nice to have options. Looks like I should start taking my "BEFORE" interior pics so we all can appreciated the "AFTER" when I get it all done! Thanks a ton for the help thus far gentlemen.

Good, if you are talking to SRT6, then there is light at the end of the tunnel.

I thought I'd check back in on your progress 818, I saw that some of the members have suggested 3M adhesive remover, so I did a quick search and found some information on E-how about the 3M adhesive remover. Here's the link.. http://www.ehow.com/how_4487915_clean-3m-tape-from-car.html
If you wind up exhausting all of your efforts to find the existing interior non-salvageable you may have a bit of luck finding the parts you need from a total at a junk yard or on craigslist, both of which in most cases will pull the parts for you.

I would search the junk yards my friend..usually the interiors are up for grabs.....they won't charge much for those pieces if you take them out yourself....

3M's gunk remover works well. Buddy of mine used it to help heal the wounds of a dash applique' gone bad in his Camaro. It WAS a process that could not be rushed, but it worked well and got the plastic dash parts looking about 97% new again. I'd give it a shot. your pictures are terrible to look at though. Hope everything goes ell for you.

Im sorry to see you have these problems. Those pictures made me cringe also. I just got my trim pieces back from SRT SIX, getting them recovered and I must say they turned out FANTASTIC! Your probibley going to need to get some sort of refinishing done to make it look descent again. I would focus on getting the pieces cleaned up and then send them of to SRT SIX for a complete refinishing. You can pick any finish, wood, metal, CF....

This illustrates that those stick-on kits are worth less than nothing because they will ruin the interior. I feel for ya man. All that time and effort just to get it looking "normal" again. Ill be watching this thread. Keep us posted!

Apparently I am that "half as* someone" but for you I would recomend SRT6. His process looks great!

I wonder if who ever installed it, just glued it on or was it too much primer? I've installed 3 kits now and I really like them. I have not used the primer yet, I might if the need arises. Looking at he surrounding parts it looks as though there is still a problem with coating coming off the console and certain dash pieces. I thought they would have improved that by 05. I had to take my dash apart on my 98 slk and strip all of that coating off the parts using alcohol. Then just re-dyed the parts with "forever black" then applied a gray/black burl kit. I wish I had done it a long time ago. I haven't the need to strip the xfire, but I used a synthetic carbor fiber kit on our base model. I guess they got call it something but it really doesn't look like carbor fiber, I think it's a lot better and I think blends perfectly with a xfire charcoal interior and It would be worth it alone just for that center console.... Really tasteful. Today I put my final one on a 05 blk roadster w/a cedar/ charcoal interior and used a Japanese Cherrywood burl Kit and my wife's happy and then so am I. It does improve the looks a bunch. I got them all off ebay and I think they are all the same quality, I got the cheapest, check to see if they all have the same part #s. Don't glue them on, peal the red plastic off the back and be so careful on the console, they stick real good there but not so good on the other dash parts, but good enough. I have pulled them off to reposition, but it wasn't easy. Try to get it right the first time. No repositioning has left any residue. again i I didn't use the primer. read the instructions on the primer and what it will do to your dash parts. I'm a believer in these kits. They make driving a nice car even nicer, I think they run better too.

I mean no disrespect Beaner, yours looks great. I just was looking around for a solution on some of the honda/acura boards and saw some really nasty shi*. The car is a classy piece and I want to put it back to like new condition.

Thanks for the responses fellas, I am still looking for the right solution. Will let you know what I find.

No luck with removing the glue using 3m's gunk remover, and no dice at the 3 body shops I went to (they said they could remove it but it would also melt the plastic or at the very least remove the paint). I knew at this point I was running out of choices....I had the following options:

#1 - Buy new pieces or find used pieces
#2 - Buy other trim decals that would cover what was lurking beneath
#3 - Sand and paint myself
#4 - Get it restored by professionals

#1 - Used parts are a bish to find. New prices on parts is absolutely disgusting.

#2 - Unfortunately I care too much about my cars to cover up something like this.

#3 - Would've done if I had a garage and the correct tools/materials

#4 - Talked to Karl and he set me up with his interior guru. He quoted me $95 to repair and redye the steering wheel, twice as much to change color. Side to side dash repair and redye $215, color change twice as much, and $285 for the center console which included the silver dye, which is much more expensive than standard colors. Which I thought was very fair pricing btw.

or #5. Get real aggressive with it because your sick of looking at it!

I chose #5. went to the store and picked up permatex gasket removed. Brushed it on, let it sit for 2 minutes and then I wiped it off......Guess what...it removed the glue........and the paint.......and melted what was underneath. Knew this could happen, I wasn't upset.

Trolling this forum, I ran into a post of a guy in SoCal who got in a wreck and the insurance company was salvaging his car, gave him a call. I sent him pics of my dash/center console and asked if I could swap out interiors, he said yes and so I did.

Couple surprises....His was an 07 (mine an 04), his interior was black (mine is grey), and the lower dashes (right and left) are different, his was a stick (mine auto). I was able to modify the drivers side lower dash to fit very well, the passenger side (glove compartment) was too different to modify so I wasn't able to take that (although I took his and mine off before I realized they weren't inter-changable (lost 1.5 hours there). The glove is what I really wanted because its the biggest eye-sore.

Here is pics of the interior swap (pics were taken with different cameras, shades/colors are different):

So overall things went well...I went black, and its true, I dont want to go back.....Black looks fabulous. So big thanks to Sky! You helped me out a ton brother!

And the real disappointment of the day, when I was working on the center I put the car in neutral and put the ebrake on. All of the sudden I hear this crunch, the car had rolled back into a vertical pillar, luckily my door stopped me from rolling all the way back and it jacked my door up (doesnt close properly now). So the moral of this story is chock your rig up!!! Stupid move on my part. Save a little, spend alot!

I still need an 04 (or like model) black glove compartment and the silver trim that goes around the automatic shifter...If you know anyone whos got the stuff please let me know.

Nice job, sorry about your door. I see your new parts came out of a base, how did you hook up your seat heater switches?

Great question. I didn't (the switched are dummies in the panel). Haven't figured that out yet. I have another issue also, and that my fogs arent turning on with the switch.

The headlight switch appears to have the ability for the fogs, it should work right?

Is there a way to change out the rocker siwtches in the panel or do I have to purchase the correct panel? ($200 on ebay right now). Not a huge deal since I live in SoCal but don't really want to lose any functionality in the interior if I can help it.

If you EVER put on vinyl for the interior, make DAM sure the stuff is made with 3M. It looks like whoever put this on used some additional glue. Very bad.

But it looks like you have almost got the most of the damaged repaired. Great work!

And a note: If you ever need to remove vinyl from the interior, use a good steam gun. List a small edge, apply the steam under the vinyl, and SLOWLY peal it away. If done correctly there should be no residue left and the interior will look as if its never been touched.

If you ever put vinyl on, MAKE SURE to read and follow the directions. Failure to do so may cause damage to your interior.

Yeah there was something so wrong about all that glue mess. Your wood like interior looks great, now all you need is to "wood up" that steering wheel.
